Root [Release] Android 2.2 Froyo for the Droid X

Those with logwrapper problems. You don't need to reflash.

You need to connect via adb and remount your system folder with rw permission.

Go to /system/bin

remove the hijack link to logwrapper and rename logwrapper.bin to logwrapper.

I was extra safe and made a backup of hijack, logwrapper, and logwrapper.bin. Then I:
rm logwrapper
cp logwrapper.bin logwrapper

Then exit adb.

Currently flashing now.

Confirmed!

Made changes with root explorer and Flashing now. Thanks for the tip

Let us know how it goes. I forgot to bring my netbook to work with me today so I can't flash the sbf or use adb to make any changes. Hopefully we can do it all through root explorer.

It worked perfectly. Running rooted froyo now

Update: Maybe not. I can't wake my phone from standby after 2 reboots.

Meh, forgot to root between flashing the sbf and applying update.zip. I am rootless and easyroot won't root at the moment.

Browse to System/Bin
Delete Hijack
Delete Logwrapper
Rename Logwrapper.bin to Logwrapper

Reboot into recovery and update.zip :)

I didn't delete hijack and things seems to be update fine so far. Could I run into problems since I didn't delete it?

Edit: Booting up now and it's working fine.

I deleted logwrapper and renamed logwrapper.bin but did not delete hijack and now my phone just stays stuck at the motorola logo.. doesn't boot. :|

I had the su apk still bu none of the root apps would ask for permission, so I am restarting everything

I'm not getting prompted either, but I think that's okay, I clicked on the superuser app icon and it showed the list of apps that are allowed so it looks like it remembers the apps you've authorized after the froyo update. Wireless tether still works so I assume I'm okay.

Can you get into recovery?

Turn off phone
Hold Power + Home
When Motorola Logo comes up release power button
When ! comes up hit search
If you get this far, try doing update.zip

Worth a shot!
