Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

Hey guys,
I just installed tickerguy's latest cm7 build on my Triumph and noticed something. In Settings > About Phone, it has Mem info (avail/total). My phone reports 162 MB / 348 MB, indicating it has 348MB of ram installed.
I thought the Triumph had 512MB? Am I missing something?

The video chip has shared ram. Bummer I know.

you need the extra to run the OS (cm7) the rest is free to use by apps and such

Says about the same thing in stock 2.2.2 as well.

There's a memory leak somewhere in the base CM7 code... this will be a BITCH to find, but it's there. The only fix is to reboot periodically at present; it's NOT in the applications you load, as if it were killing them would fix it - and it doesn't.

It's in the "base" CM7 code somewhere.... I've been able to reproduce it, but not find it as of yet. If you're running into very slow response on the rotation sensor or other apps, this is why....

I'm on it but this is NOT going to be fun to find at all, given that it's not my code or development in this issue.... the fastest fix for it is to reboot roughly daily.

Incidentally I've run a solid 8+ hour tether session, and it was utterly stable while running CoPilot the entire time. This ROM is, in the general sense, VERY stable and usable IMHO - far better than stock.

would this be something anybody from the CM Team might be able to help with or does it end up being device specific and not anything they would touch because the Triumph isnt an officially supported device from them?

Please keep focusing on the GPS. But I'm going to make a note of another bug I found:

It doesn't see/connect to Wifi that isnt broadcasting the SSID. My home wifi does not broadcast SSID, and Stock can connect to it fine but this rom doesnt. The moment I had the router start broadcasting SSID the rom connected to it.

Also has anyone managed to get OpenVPN working? I have everything setup and configured and according to the server logs it seems the phone connects fine (so I know all the certs/keys are setup properly) but after about a minute the phone disconnects from the VPN (times out) and the server has tons of log messages about

openvpn[1009]: read UDPv4 [ECONNREFUSED]: Connection refused (code=146)

This probably isn't an issue with the rom itself, just curious if anyone has OpenVPN working.

I think the reason why OpenVPN is failing is because this kernel doesn't have a tun.ko driver built as a module nor built-in. According to forum.cyanogenmod.com topic/23136-compiling-tunko-for-latest-rom/ only official cyanogen builds have this support built in.

If you do an
Code:
ls /dev/tun
you will see that it is missing. One way I can think to fix this is to change the following line in the kernel .config file and build with "make modules "
Code:
CONFIG_TUN=m
.

I've built many kernels in my day, is it just as easy as cloning Tickerguy's github repository and issuing a make modules? I will find out as soon as I get some time. I have 2 newborns now!

Sources:
Since I'm new I can't post links. Google search "how to compile tun.ko", it will be the first result.

Btw Thanks ticker guy, isaacj87 and all the devs that made this rom possible!

Open an issue on Github on the tun.ko driver and I'll include it - if I remember I'll do it even without, but this way I'll make sure to check it..... I'm not working this weekend but will be back on the code next week sometime.

I need help resetting my wifi please.

First of all thanks for the good work on getting this ROM to the level it is at! Amazing work!

A couple of days ago(Friday) I took the plunge and installed the 10/2 version. I used the option in Recovery to Wipe Data/Factory Reset before installing from ZIP, then booted CM7 and synced with Google.
At first I was quite impressed and happy with it. I played with it, especially trying to tether my wifi only Xoom. I tried bluetooth as well as wifi, nothing worked. After a few hours I got an incoming phone call that crashed the phone. After that I could no longer place calls, the radio looked locked. No dial tone. I pulled the battery and rebooted to fix the call issue. However I was not able to connect to my WPA-2 protected wifi. I found it surprising that I did not need to re-enter my WPA key, it seems to remember the key from the Froyo ROM. The phone seemingly connects to my AP, I see "Connecting", then turns to Disconnected".
I absolutely need wifi at this location so I decided to go back to stock. I restored from backup, but my wifi won't go back to the way it was. It now acts the same way as with the alpha CM7 ROM. Before installing CM7, I had no issue whatsoever with wifi, it worked flawlessly.

I have tried to "Wipe Delvik Cache" from Recovery and re-install both CM7 and Froyo backup, it made no difference. What else can I try?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Just thought i would share this, i seen posts of ppl getting battery life into the double digits and one even claiming over 20 hrs, i was like eh idk bout all that..but after i charged phone last night and did some things before hand, my phone is at 18hrs of use and only at 52% battery...and thats with use, i wouldnt say heavy use but i browse the web, use IM+ on constantly almost, downloaded few apps and used gps along with wifi for little to test i could connect with my wifi now that i got my ISP back.

I dont use juice defender at all for the record, the only major change i did was i installed set cpu and have CM7 on smartassv2 and only thing i changed on setcpu was when screen is off to throttle phone down to 245mhz, ive made calls on this phone through out the day so i can honestly say that these times are true and im in shock myself, on stock i could barely get 5-7 hrs, to be at 18hrs and 52%...just wow, so im curious what some other ppls times are, ima edit this later with final time once phone is around 5% to see what total is. I even have a battery widget that shows remaining time from charge and when i woke up this morning it was showing over 96hrs left..lol but of course that dropped when i started using but ya, just thought i would share and curious what other ppls times are.

Thanks for giving it a shot. I couldn't figure out how to open an issue in github, I tried to navigate the website and followed the online tutorial to no avail. I'm going to chalk up my issue with github to sleep depravation. I left you a message over their as a reminder.

In order to use setcpu do I have to gingerbreak my phone 1st? Just wanted to know if cm7 allowed access to do so before I buy it. Thanks

On stock I set my max cpu speed at 368mhz on power save setting. Phone boot up crawled. I used juice defender, took about5 minutes to load up with that slow cpu. With all that I got about bullcrap and a half for battery. Now I don't even use juice defender, I keep the cpu speed at stock, and my battery is sick. Sorry I don't have numbers, but yeah cm7 rapes

Has anyone tried the Bluetooth Tethering yet? I want to try to use my ipod touch for this, that would be sweet. I know with current stock, WI FI tethering has a work around with modifying your network connection to be able to access all websites etc, otherwise only google sites work.

I have tried and have failed. The connection is established using bluetooth PAN, but no data flows. I was able to use barnacle for Wifi tether, but no bluetooth. Maybe the issue has to do with the whole MTU setting I keep reading about.

Barnacle MTU settings on motorolatriumphhacks.

Just a thought.

I haven't needed to change the MTU while bluetooth tethering. Did you pair the two devices first? I was trying to connect to my phone via PAN before I paired my phone and laptop and I had the exact same issue you are.

I tried establishing the PAN, then paired devices. My paired devices were able to see the PAN. But they were unable to navigate the internet. Does this mean you were able to get yours to work? If so what software did you have to use?

Ps lets discontinue this conversation here, I don't want to hijack this thread.

If you're using 10-2, you're using it. 7.1 is just a snapshot release of developmental builds.

Isaac.. I am curious as it shows 7.1, but it shows its built on 2.3.5 not 2.3.7 according to the changelog? I mean it looks like its just the google wallet that gets added but there may be other lil tweaks in 2.3.7, or is it maybe just reporting 2.3.5 and it is 2.3.7?

Also.. over the weekend I didn't use Wifi and my phone didn't reboot a single time... so it appears the wifi enabled has a direct corolation to the random reboots, at least in my case, fwiw.
