Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

Netflix updated to 1.51 today and now it seems to work properly with both video and audio.

I had a weird little bug just happen to me, but it only happened once so maybe its something else. I was on the phone and I went to open up the dial pad during a call and the screen woke up but it was all faded white. The screen still worked but it was very hard to see. After the call ended I turned the screen on and off and it was fine again.

btw, installing setcpu and turning down the min frequency(as well as just switching to cm7) has been amazing for me. My phone has currently been on for 18.5 hours, about 8 of which were on standby, and I still have 19% battery left, and this was with pretty heavy use. I updated a number of apps, played scrabble, played a number of rounds of a tower defense game, checked netflix twice and read for a few hours plus a handful of emails and phone calls.

I don't think that has anything to do with the ROM, I think it's the screen itself that has that problem. It used to happen to me on stock too, and it just randomly happens. If you put the screen to sleep and wake it again it should go away, that's usually what I do.
 
Just reporting that on the 10/21 build, I am still experiencing the proximity sensor flashing regularly during my calls. It does not blink quickly like it did in the last build, but more like every 3 or 4 seconds for the duration of the call.

Looks hit or miss. That time when I placed a call and initially put it to my ear it did not flash at all. So I pulled it away until the screen came on and then put it back up to my ear and it began flashing again. The subsequent call flashed from the beginning.
 
just updated to 10/21 with no issues I can see yet also made a small donation to you ticker, thanks for all your hard work, wish I had more to give!
 
First of all I apologize if I've been asking questions inappropriate for this thread. I have tried to read as much as i can from this thread the past month but unfortnately this is the complete sum total of my knowledge of Android, so it's hard for me to know what is related to CM7 and what is just common noob stuff.
I think the below Information may be pertinent to the discussion though...

After Installing CPU Master Free and setting the governor to SmartassV2 and Minimum frequency to 122, I have been recording my battery level from a full charge this morning every hour on the hour and this is what I got starting from the first hour unplugged: 92%-89%-82%-65%-56%-50%-48%-36%.
So it varies greatly with usage. When the phone is just sitting in my pocket it can use as little as 2% battery, but when i'm playing with settings and downloading apps it got as high as 17% in just one hour. battery life overall seems a little better but not as good as many of the reports I've read here so far. Maybe Juice Saver would help?
Also, the spontaneous reboot thing is worse than i thought. It reboots often and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I installed Watchdog Lite to see if there was a screwy app but there are no alerts and everything using the cpu seems to be doing so within acceptable limits. I'm pretty sure I wiped and flashed everything correctly as I mentioned earlier, so I'm really scratching my head on this one. Should I just start from scratch and do another wipe and flash or maybe there was something I restored with Titanium that's screwing it up? Any ideas?

Disclaimer: I am sure my experience WILL not be identical for everyone trying the following. This is mainly directed to anyone that still see some of the issues pointed out below after a soft update from previous releases.

For the many issues I see posted here, like data drop, random reboots from wake, slow app drawer, force close on market,.. all you may need to do is the following:
  • First, make a full backup of your system (using Nandroid or whatever app works like it) and sync your app to something like Appbrain market this wil help get back your apps in a blink.
  • Then, boot in clockword recovery, wipe system/data, dalvik cache, battery stat and also remove "useless" application folders on sd card.
  • Lastly, reinstall the update and flash the necessary apps as directed on the the first page. I personally do not advise restoring apps from backup.
Since I did this, my phone feels unbelievably faster and bug free, so far: average 2800 on quadrant (ondemand w/o overclock), no random reboots, no data drop, fast wake & transitions.. just excellent stuff! Today, 12 hours on since last charge and 36% remaining with 4 background applications running. :)

What do you mean when you say "useless" application folders? And when you say you do not advise restoring apps from backup would that include Titanium Backup?
 
I believe that some people are always going to experience problems with this rom due to the phone itself. I happened to get REALLY lucky with mine, I had NONE of the common MT issues. As a result, this rom, so far has been trouble-free, with the exception of proximity flashes, and even this only happens on rare occasions. The build date on mine is 08/11, and the battery door is stamped E 29JUN11. So, I think that if your phone had issue BEFORE installing this rom, you'll most likely continue to have some, regardless. If you can, I suggest exchanging it, because some units really are issue-free.

Read the whole post before doing anything.
Sync your apps to AppBrain market or keep a full list of apps that you need and paid for. I suggest backing up your sd card to your computer then deleting old application folders from your sd card (actually, if you don't mind, I suggest formatting your sd card). Then, once you have all the files required for installing the current build (see first page), do a full wipe out (factory, data, system, dalvik cache, battery stats) and reinstall following the steps of a fresh install (exact steps described on first page).

It might be a hassle to then install your applications anew but I strongly suggest avoiding restores, since those backups may actually contain sources of the issues.
I had the issues you highlighted and this process was more than worth it. But like I mentioned in my previous post, I can not guaranty that all those issues will be resolved.

So.. if you are any reticent about this please don't do it.

Btw, I recently replied to your earlier post. For clarification sake, what I meant by "useless" application folders on the sd card are:
  • Folders remaining after their applications has long been uninstalled. Some may contain settings or data that may be useful after a reinstall, but they may also contain settings only specific to older builds or Froyo.
  • Folders of applications which, currently, do not work properly or at all on this build. Those applications should await until an update resolves their incompatibility.
  • Folders of third party apps that have the ability to tweak settings that were not available on Froyo or previous builds of the current CM7. If planing to reinstall or keep those applications, one should avoid restoring settings from those (applies especially to launchers that may fail finding files or applications).
Overall, I believe that the less stuff carried from one build to another, the better the new application will work.

So like I answered for the previous question, the less data carried from one update, the smoother the experience on the new update. If Titanium Backup backs up the original apk files it should be alright, but getting the most recent update from the market is safer. I have never used Titanium Backup, so, it would be nice to get comments from users that have used it and did not have any issues after update or upgrade.
 
Ok, so I found an issue, and I think it's pretty serious. Whenever I enable the Wifi, I've been seeing the 3G icon disappear. Well, tonight I checked it in Settings, and sure enough, when I connect to my Wifi, the Mobile Network State shows it as Disconnected. When I turn Wifi off, it reconnects the Mobile Network State. Hmm... I'm sure it's not supposed to be one or the other, what gives? Oh, and I'm on the latest 10/22 build, but I noticed it on the previous build as well.

On a somewhat offtopic thing, does anyone get the games, NOVA or NOVA 2 to work on Triumph. It didn't work for me on 2.2 and also not on this CM7..

It just gives a black screen after the intro video though the sound is coming properly.

That is normal - ALL android builds do that. They will shut down the 3g data connection when Wifi is available.
 
I have a handle on the screen flash thing - I think.

There MAY be another update this weekend if I can squash this roach. No promises.

Incidentally my experience is that the "burn" on this ROM is about 4%/hour assuming moderate background data (e.g. K9 mail on push) but no actual usage. If you're using materially more than when idle that something is pigging the power (e.g. an app, etc) Get one of the many tools and figure out what's chewing on the CPU. Note that the screen, when it's on, is a MAJOR pig as is Wifi. Wifi in particular is NASTY when actually moving data. The brighter you have the screen set the worse it is. 3g isn't great, but not as bad. Also the CPU in this phone is pretty gnarly in terms of its power burn when it's cranking, so if you're running things that stress it you're going to pay in battery life.

Also, I strongly recommend against turning the CPU sleep clock down below the 245k that it's set to. You're asking for trouble with wakes or even hard freezes doing that, and if you're running music and such in the background you may have trouble with that as well.

The recent memory management changes should give you most of what the "V6 supercharger" script does with none of the instabilities. I've had problems with that and don't use it, but your mileage may vary.
 
So, about USB tethering it works with my laptop if i turn on USB debugging else it does not seem to come up on the laptop. Is this how it is supposed to work? Maybe someone with another Android phone maybe a Nexus one can tell how it is supposed to work.

If it wasn't for this ROM, I would have returned this phone the first week I purchased it.

As for people posting about random reboots, I have not experienced this.

Thanks for the break down. It sounds like you are of similar philosophy to me with the ultra pure strategy, strip it down and rebuild it piece by piece. If I have any further trouble I'll install Appbrain and see how it goes with your method.
I may have found my problem though! It occurred to me the only thing I hadn't done in clockwork was fix the permissions, so I powered down and selected the option and I haven't had a reboot since! It's only been about five hours now, but no reboots and it even seems like my battery usage is better. I'll do another hour by hour monitoring tomorrow and post the results.
 
Front camera is not working wiped /system /cache /dalvik cache and /battery. Not data then tried to install the rom. Then I wiped everything and installed the rom again still doesn't work. Then I tried other programs to use the camera with. Nothing I need help.
