Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

Decided to investigate this further:

In all tests, only the GPS was enabled (no wireless).

  • ODIN'ed to FA19 Rooted, installed KoumaKernel 2.2 and enabled that sweet, sweet /data mod. Attempted to use TeleNav or Maps - neither can find my position via GPS.
  • :D ODIN'ed back to FA19 Rooted, did not install KoumaKernel 2.2. Maps and Telenav find my position via GPS correctly.
  • :D On FA19 Rooted, installed KoumaKernel 2.2 BUT did not enable /data mod. Maps and Telenav find my position via GPS correctly.
  • Enabled /data mod. Rebooted. Attempted to use TeleNav or Maps - neither can find my position via GPS.
  • :D Disabled the /data mod on KoumaKernel 2.2 again. Rebooted. Maps and Telenav find my position via GPS correctly.
  • :D Restored CTMod 3.3 backup (with /data mod in place). GPS doesn't work. Disabled /data mod. Rebooted. Maps and Telenav find my position via GPS correctly.
  • Re-enabled /data mod. Rebooted. Attempted to use TeleNav or Maps - neither can find my position via GPS.
  • :( Sat back in my chair and cried like a baby.

Looks like the Prevail's GPS doesn't like the KoumaKernel /data mod. I haven't experimented with the Super Saiyan Mod.

UPDATE: The SSM option in the koumamod file does not break the GPS. I'm attempting to add another partition to my SD for the dalvik and see what affect (if any) is has on the GPS.

thanks for all your testing

I guess thats why it works for some people and not others lol

Right. Are you using the /data mod or the /ssm mod (with or w/o the dalvik partition) in your koumamod file?

When I was running CTMod 3.3 , I left it with KK 2.1 and used adb to partition the sd card with both partitions set to 2048 and left the rest for the FAT partition . I didn't change anything in the koumamod file since it already is set for the SSM . When I did change it , it moved all internal to the sd card . I noticed a slight speed difference between the 2 with the SSM being faster . :D

EDIT : I'm running a 16g class 10 card .

Well if it works running CTMod 3.3 you are in fact using KK2.1. Just don’t update the kernel :)

EDIT: FYI it’s not necessary to use the fa19 baseband, You can always try EJO6.

I see what your saying, I'm just not getting the same results. ugh It sux to have mix results lol

I'm going to odin Fa19 and see if that changes anything lol

You can add a data point to the experiment if you follow these exact steps:

  • Modify the /system/koumamod file to enable the /data mod.
  • Reboot.
  • IMPORTANT: make sure your wireless (Settings > Location and security > Use wireless networks) is "Off". This is important because some software (e.g. Maps) can locate your position via wireless connections. Obviously, ensure your GPS is "On" in the same menu.
  • Open maps (or Telenav) and see if it locates your position.

Update:

Created an additional ext4 partition for the Dalvik cache (i.e., vfat / ext4 / ext4). Formatted everything. Flashed CTMod 3.3 and enabled the /ssm mod in the /system/koumamod file. Rebooted.

:D GPS works.

Disabled the /ssm and enabled the /data mod. Rebooted.

 GPS doesn't work.

Re-enabled the /ssm. Rebooted.

:D GPS works.

(P.S. All respect to Kouma. His kernel and Blood's CTMod will always be loaded into my phone.)

Well , I finally installed CTMod 3.3 with KK 2.2 OC . I've got the SSM working again, Maps and GPS are working fine for me .

hey guys. badly need ur help. can u give the official gingerbread for samsung galaxy mini and the steps on how to upgrade it. thanks :DDD

to SCHR9091 if you didn't get the ssm to work i had the same problem and tried over n over then for the heck of it i tried it with r/o instead of r/w and it worked, give that a try.

are there any other phones in the future, that will be rooted with this similar CTMOD or KK either a next gen prevail or like the zte warp...

since this mod, the prevail is like new now.lol- but ive noticed newer phones bigger screens, AUTOFOCUS camera, which is nice with barcode and everyday stuff..obviously larger internal memory, w/o partitioning the sd card.

Yeah , you have to use the correct one or the settings will not stick .

I'm gonna be working on the Marquee soon. I'll probably do something like CTMod for it and see if I can port anything to it
