Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

GREAT JOB BLOODAWN!

Thank you for addressing the graphic issues i mentioned!
This version feels faster and more stable! No hangs like 3.5!
Also I like the flashing colors of the download bar! GREAT!

I am still having problems with GPS. When I turn it on its not finding location in any apps. It just says "searching for gps", and im not getting the satellite display on the top of the screen. I have installed the Koumafix as well as changing permissions to rw- rw- rw- and I am still at a loss. I reflashed the rom and the GPS worked fine until the SD-EXT was used.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Running 2.3.6
FA19
Kernel 2.6.35.14-PREVL-KK-2.5
CTMod 3.6

Go to /etc/gps.conf and change the word "america" to "us"

Don't add spaces just replace that word on first line

I tried to change it to us but says save failed I tried changing permission and that also failed so exactly how did you do it

go find the telenav apk and run that first...this worked for me when i had this issue, it installs files when you start it...hope that helps. If that dont work try moving to EJ06

So I'm changing the first line for the NTP_SERVER from north-america.pool.ntp.org to north-us.pool.ntp.org?

This is what my gps.conf looks like
Code:
 NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.north-america.pool.ntp.org

XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

Ya... Im starting to think this may be a lost cause. I edited my gps.conf to mirror yours exactly, and no luck.

I also installed the removedapps.zip to see if telenev.apk could jump start the signal and still nothing.

I downloaded GPS status to view my connection and I never lock on to any sattelites. I am banging my head against the wall at this point.
:dontknow:

Quick question from 3.5 can I do a backup of data in cwm install 3.6 and do an advanced restore the data or will that cause problems?

Stupid question, but did you go outside to where you have a clear view of the sky?

I never do that. Because you can never be sure it will not cause problems.
It's like taking the program files folder from Windows XP and then pasting it into your fresh Windows 7 install.

Haha yes, I have tried outside in numerous locations. When I turn on GPS i dont even get the little satellite symbol on the status bar up top. When I reflash the 3.6 rom it will work, but once I format for sd-ext is when I encounter the issue. I am not sure if this is coming from the Rom itself or the Kernel, but this is a function of the phone that I use a lot.

ok, so you have an SD card that's already partitioned, and you install CTmod 3.6 and it works fine.

then you just format the sd-ext and it stops working?
Do you change any ctmod/koumamod settings?

Edit:
Making some assumptions, it sounds as if you started with your SD card partitioned
then you installed CTmod 3.6
then you changed KoumaMod to data mode (hopefully you used the app and didn't mod the file manually anymore)
then rebooted and GPS was broken for you?

If that's pretty accurate, try setting the KoumaMod mode, then format the sd-ext, then reboot

No. From the initial boot of CTMod3.6 with the new Koumakernel it was working. I then installed the sd-ext. Since then I have made a few changes in attempt to repair the GPS, as you can see from the previous posts in the thread.

I Odin'd with the FA19 pack, installed CWM, partitioned the SD card to 512mb ext, flashed the ROM, rebooting in between. Once the ROM booted up I changed the Koumakernal setting to Data to enable the sd-ext.

I reflashed the ROM without enabling the extra storage afterwards, and this resulted in GPS success (this was a few days ago with 3.5). Of course, once it was working 3.6 was released.

I Odin'd back to stock for a fresh root and then ran through the rooting steps from the start and installed 3.6. I may be wrong, but I feel like something to do with the extended internal storage may be causing the conflict?

EDIT:
You are correct. The SD card was partitioned before the ROM was installed. I installed the ROM and then changed KoumaMod to Data USING THE APP I did not change anything manually.

So I should go back into Koumamod settings and set to data again?

after changing the KoumaKernel setting to data, reboot into recovery and format sd-ext. CTmod defaults to SSM mode so it puts all kinds of garbage into your sd-ext that could be interfering with your gps.
Also, consider disabling the internal /data. It may help

Thank you, I appreciate the help. At the risk of being a nuisance could you give me a cliffnotes version of how to do this correctly so I dont end up missing something? I am fairly computer-saavy but I am pretty new to rooting and modding.

EDIT:
I understand the settings and re-partitioning. How would I go about diabling the internal /data and is this going to cause issues with any other programs referencing the system data folder?

EDIT:
Nevermind, it was right there plain as day.

I did everything you said here and still nothing. I dont think this is meant to have GPS anymore lol. Thanks for all the help but I think im at the point of giving up on it.

One more question, on Google Image search using the browser when I touch the next button on Google nothing happens, also the numbered pages don't open if you touch them

Nevermind it is happening on my zte warp too so it's Google not the browser
