Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

How do I go about updating my ROM to this newest version without losing all my data/settings?

You don't. If you upgrade, you have to start over. Your contacts will sync when you sign into your Google account, your pics and music will remain, your sdcard isn't touched.

Other than that, you will need to redownload all your apps.

My Prevail has no service activated on it and CTMod 3.75 uses the wifi just fine, even after reboot the wifi is automatically connected to the hotspot I use, so that apk isn't really needed as far as I'm concerned...
I also have never had to force my wifi on any of the versions of CTMod. It works just fine for me without any type of apk. I have service with Boost activated on it. When I didn't have service for a while I was still able to use the wifi on 3.68 with no issues. What would cause it to not work? Asking because once I upgrade and move my servise over I still might use this little wonder for all sorts of things.

@ Lordvncent, I do believe you're right. Looks like Thadd posted in the wrong section. Lol . I think he meant to post in the Marquee section.

Prevail is coming, Prevail is coming. Lol :D:p:D

I have had no problems at all! I installed carbon light theme and was great. I usually don't really use the web much but did some and my phone started lagging bad? I then thought about it and flashed this back to stock zip that Gus made, and all of a sudden the phone is flying again?? The web causes no problem now either! Gonna try the other 2 themes and see if they cause any problem. So if you are having lag problems and are using any theme try this revert back to stock theme and try out and see if that is the cause. Let us know if this works for you so we can tell Gus but if not maybe it was just me then. THX!!!

So in hopes of fixing the lag I also uninstalled and reinstalled voltage control. I then made it a system app again. So far so good. I will let you know more but I think it helped.

So you had lag and the theme? I installed the glass one and then went to a certain app and sure enough was slow when back to stock and all was good again!

Edit- Thadd... did you unintentionally post in the prevail section? We can't clock to 1200 :D:D:D

Lol oops! Yeah I did. My bad. I noticed that just now, before I read what you posted. I meant to post in the LG Marquee section :o

I was getting lag without the theme. Mostly after using the internet.

Well then the theme wasn't the cause in your case? Might still be something installed. You can try to (just make sure you have a fresh backup made to fall back on), and do a factory wipe, reinstall the rom and no apps and use the web if no lag then install apps and if lag then an app issue. In that case you install 1 app use and if good, backup, then install a second and so on and so on untill you find the problem one or do 10 at a time if you have alot. 99.9% of the time it is what we install that causes the problems or what we change and do!

Now the RedFx seems to be great with no lag so gonna run with it for a while here.

On another side note:
J6 said I can redo his themes and I'm working on it if and when I get it I will post unless he decides to do them before I get them working!

Themes should not be causing any lagging at all, for your peace of mind, I'm not making any mod's (messing around) to the settings of the rom that can affect the performance of your phone, my themes are only and absolutely cosmetic (visuals).
Anyways, if your beast (phone) is lagging, try clearing caches, a simple method that can do great miracles (specially at Christmas) lol!!!

I hear you on that and I do clear regularly and might just be a fluke? I tried them then reverted back and seen a difference and now redfx no problem, Wired:confused:, Might have something to do with the combination of what I have and the theme to affect me only, but still wired:confused:. Still all is good now, ran the heck out of everything and no problems now!:)

Good to hear that, also need to remember that some external apps are using the phone system images to run and that sometimes cause lags too. ;)

I don't think koumakernel supports ext2 for data/ssm mode.
That's a question best for the koumakernel thread

ok that sounds cool,
thanks

would you please point me to a simplified procedure list of operations in order to set up the fresh install and setup of the CTMod with new 32 gig C10 SD card having partitions for virtual RAM and all apps with related data files, the optimal sizes of sd card dedicated for virtual ROM and apps with the best settings for maximum performance and stability.

thanks for the help

I was having issues with my voltage control changing so i went to the play store version and my lag stopped.....when it was lagging before I noticed my voltage control would change the governer and would change my mins and maxes.......have been running market version for two days with no problems plus sd booster app makes it faster.....still trying to figure it out but ready to go to 3.68 performance was better

So I'm having the same problems with the lagging... I was looking at running applications and it looks like there's a ton open already just booting up... Could this be the cause of the lag/freezing? I'm running FF19_ROOTED with latest CTMod 3.75 Final. I notice mostly just the freezing when either opening a new application or backing out of something like web browser... I don't know much about this at all. But I figured I'd just throw it out there. I can't really even use the phone like this, it's really bad with freezing on mine.. Awesome Mod btw! ^,^

Keep in mind that even though there are no mods in place with themes, just like with computers, the more graphics that your display is showing the more graphics memory it is using, that's why most people usually switch to classic theme on Windows based computers so there computer can get back up to speed, well the same with our phones, the more eye candy you have it display the slower it will become...

Lol, that's why I'm glad we have the ability to OC our beasts to make up for the graphics power it's using... :p

But he isn't actually adding anything. He is REPLACING the existing ones with different ones. As long as the images' size remains the same, performance should too.

1. Partition card with sdparted.apk
(I use 1024, or 1gb for data and you shouldnt need more than 256-512mb for swap)
2. Copy data from old card to new card (easiest way is to PC then to new card)
3. Install ct mod if you haven't already done so
4. Switch to data mode
5. Reboot
5b. If you get stuck at the koumakernel screen, boot into cwm and format sdext
6. Direct koumamod to enable swap on /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 (the swap partition you created)

Instructions for these steps can be found in the koumakernel thread.

Please post followup questions related to setting up the kernel/koumamod in that thread.

Now I can't remember off hand but like Gus's are like 19000 kb and redit is 9000kb and most of J6's are like 9000kb. Now I know not much but does make a diff. These #'s are off the pc I know they are like 15-20mb versus low ones at around 10mb. Same thing add the brighter colors and stuff vs a plain stock one, it uses more ram. Or like the light turn it down your battery lasts longer vs when up drain is quicker, the program is still the same size for backround light.

I already know that he's replacing existing images, trust me I'm not new to this, all I'm saying is that even though the images are being replaced with new ones for a custom theme it doesn't mean that they won't use more ram/memory on the graphics side, and another thing, with a lot of these themes out here, there are some images that are different that are replaced to make the original image look better but in doing that they're possibly using more graphics memory, and when that's done it could slow down the functionality of the rom at that point... These phones aren't that much different than computers and if you have a good general concept of how they run then you should also know what I'm trying to explain here, it's not that difficult...
This.

As I said, might be the sd-card and not you...... Before you go crazy, just try a different brand of card and start from scratch !! Sd-Cards can go bad.......

You were right!

Switched from my 32GB C10 card to my girls 32GB C4 card and it works like normal.. Honestly I think it's much faster them my old card.
