Now Josh tells all of us NOT to dirty flash the roms. He is 100% correct but we are a lazy bunch!
As you did, I have dirty flashed the latest stable and everything I do with the phone is running in what seems to be perfect order. Being one of the laziest flashers here it seems I am one of the biggest offenders when it comes to dirty flashing. Has worked out for me in more than 90 to 99% of the flashes I do :)

Good luck and please let us know of any issues you may encounter.

Edwin is one of my DU colleagues. Fear not, I am still here. Just busy with real life so I told him to post some builds for me in the interim.

So what's up with these test builds with PIE. Did you get out-voted, Josh, or mugged? ;) I think I may stay with stable until I see if this is permanent. Not really a fan, but obviously can ignore if here to stay.
As for PIE, I was unfortunately out-voted.

By The Way, I love the shut down animation. I think it should be the start up animation. ;) Maybe different colors for start up and shut down.

I'm lazy too. But I did do a full backup of everything before this flash and this is my first dirty flash (to be fair I've only flashed DU once before this and something else on my old phone once). I have a lot of apps that I use and hate the hassle of putting them all back so I'll dirty flash first and if that doesn't work. I will bitch and moan and then clean flash. :p

I just use titanium backup. Takes about 5 minutes to restore all my user apps and data.

I use titanium backup too but it wouldn't let me restore everything at once. I had to do the apps one at a time (so I didn't bother for a lot of them). Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Ugh. Something isn't right so I guess I'll either clean flash later or restore my backup. I plugged in the phone and 30 min later with no use it lost charge and was really hot. Then I unplugged it and 10 minutes later with no use it lost another 5 percent. Now our power is out so I can't do much about it.

Do you have the pro key? I think they don't allow batch restore without having the paid version. It's an app that's definitely worth its money though.

I think I do now but I bought it after I originally flashed DU. BTW I rebooted my phone and it seems fine now. I might still put the Franco kernel on it later.

spoke too soon. It's taking forever to charge-just like the last time. After having it plugged in for about 8 hours it's still only about 80% (it was about 45% when I plugged it in). Also it's really hot with no use. I'll try the franco kernel and see if that helps. I should have just left well enough alone. :(

Nothing wrong with the kernel. You just need to clean flash and let the core cool down.

I'll probably clean flash eventually. For now I installed Franco kernel and almost immediately the temp went down and it said it would be done charging in 20 minutes (compared to 3 hours before). Then I tried to change a setting in FKU and it kept crashing so I reinstalled FKU. By the time it was done the temp was about 10 degrees less than it was (started out at 106 and is now down to 96).

I'll probably do a clean flash tonight. If I have to clean flash every time it's really not worth the hassle to me, having to backup my photos, videos, texts, etc and the pictures in mms don't back up so I have to manually save and back those all up. When I first flashed I was told I could just do a clean flash the first time and just dirty flash updates which is why I decided to go for it.

eta: the same thing happened when I did the first clean flash of DU. It wouldn't charge or would lose charge on the charger so I added the franco kernel and it was fine.

You don't need to backup photos or videos. You shouldn't be wiping your internal storage. Only the specific partitions that are included within a normal clean wipe (dalvik, cache, system, and data).

Also, whomever told you that was wrong. I always said that every build should be clean flashed. However, some are lazy and do not desire to do that each time. That's on them though. At that juncture, any bugs they come across are no longer of my concern lol.

PS: If you have Titanium Backup PRO, SMS/MMS can be backed up. This also includes batch restores and backups.

Thanks. I haven't had titanium backup pro for very long. the post about dirty flashing is somewhere in this thread but I do realize that at the end, it's on me to decide and research. thanks for the help!! I will definitely do a clean flash tonight.

I will note that the stock kernel in DU as of version 7.9 gives me such good battery life (using Trickster mod to apply a few settings) that, for now, I've stopped using Franco.

argh. I did the clean flash and now every time the phone boots up it says "google play services has an error" or something. I'm doing a complete reflash now.

eta: the first time I flashed I flashed the stock gapps but I ended up uninstalling a lot of it so this time I tried the modular micro pkg. So that didn't work out so I'm doing the stock pkg again. I'll just uninstall the stuff again.

eta: the play store would never load and I kept getting popups about apps needing an update but when I clicked on it, it said the play store wouldn't load. I ended up restoring my backup and will try again later.

Google Play Services will only error out if you aren't wiping correctly.

I have sometimes, not lately, gotten a notification after flashing that Google Play Services needed updating. If I touched the notification, it took me to the play store, although when I got there, there was nothing to update, but that always made it happy. I always suspected it was because TBO Gapps weren't up-to-date as there used to be a longer period before they would post a new one. Lately, they've been pretty up to date.

In general. I don't get rid of Google Apps as they have funny dependencies and I don't really care what's in my app drawer since I have everything I actually use out on my home screens.
