Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

This is my first time posting but have been following your progress for a while. I just installed CM9 on my Triumph but for some reason every time I try to use the phone (both making and receiving calls) My phone crashes and then restarts. Am I the only one? Are you aware of the problem? Any solutions? Thanks and I love it so far.

Did you make sure to do a full wipe and dalvik cache before installing the ROM?

First of all, thanks again to the dev's for their awesome work.

I want to update to the latest version but REALLY want to avoid having to reinstall all my apps, settings and contacts. I followed some of the backup suggestions but still had to reinstall my apps and accounts etc.

How do you guys do it?

Personally I use Titanium Backup. Backup all my apps but not Gmail.

1. Full wipe, wipe dalvik, install ROM, install Gapps and reboot.
2. On first boot I skip all the screens accept for name on phone.
3. Connect to wifi open Play Store and add my account
4. Download Titaium Backup
5. Settings < Developer Options < check Android debugging
6. Launch Titanium and restore apps
7. Download gmail and sync (I have found after hundreds of wipes its best just start fresh with gmail)
8. Configure settings for my personal taste (display serttings, 3 home screens, etc)

All in all it takes be maybe 10 minutes to do this time and time again. What I loose is all text messages, and call logs but doesn't really matter as I don't text much or call much.

Just wanted to mention that you can backup and restore your text messages, call history, and Wifi passwords via XML with Titanium Backup :)

I will need to look into that LOL, haven't spent a lot of time learning the power of that app. Uploading to FTP, or Dropbox and all that jazz as I have the pro version.

You can do that in CWM also. Backup your original ROM with backup/restore option in CWM. Then, after installing any ROMs, whether CM6, CM7 or CM9, just do the backup/restore -> advanced restore -> restore data. That's it. Everything even your background will be the same as before. The only problem for me is that, I always have to reflash gapp. I don't know why since it's the system apps and restoring data doesn't even touch system.

Yep! :) In Titanium, hit menu and then "more" there will be an option "Backup data to XML" and then it gives option for texts, calls, or wifi :)

Was running MTDEV-CM7-20121015 Then did a full wipe and installed MTDEV-CM9 build 20121113 [BETA] Then installed gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip Which thus gives Google play access was able to install my free and pay apps.

Working:
Phone: make and receive calls. Note needed to turn on sync to get address book to d/l from Google.
SMS: Able to send and receive text both with ICS app and payed apps.
Chrome: Was able to install and use chrome. no issues to report.
GMail: was able to update gmail and sync/receive mail.

Kinda mostly working:
Netflix: App works well, but after playing for 10 to 28 minutes it will freeze for 10-15 seconds then start playing again. After that it will then freeze like this every 5 minutes of play. I speculate some sort of memory issue with buffering or background process stealing memory or buffers.
Battery Life: Better then all other builds but blew through 80% of a battery in 3.5 hours with WiFi left on accidentally

Not Working:
Camera: This is a known issue, just wanted to say it's not working in this build. Tested with both built in and ZoomFX pay app.
Mic-Button: This works in CM7 but not in this build. Tested with 3 different cables one was the Apple native iPhone headphones.
Blue Tooth: Was not able to pair any devices that worked on latest CM7

Overall great work! Trying to be helpful, please let me know how I can help.
Is there a "how to trouble shoot CM issues" guide to read so I can report better info?
What is the best way to provide positive feedback? I want to support this effort in any way I can!

Sweet so this is just an ICS thing. I think I may know what is wrong :D I will spend some time on this!

There is a newer version of GAPPS that will save you the need to update many google apps. Check the OP for the link.

I have done okay by restoring only the gmail app - no data restore. However, if someone is having problem, it would be a good idea to start from fresh of course.

Wifi access points restore might work. This has been hit and miss for me.

Google play restore has been especially problematic for me. This one I would definitely avoid.

Blue tooth pairing data restore using titanum appears to work okay. I find this one especially useful because I always forget how to put my jawbone into pairing mode.

In general, I would recommend testing out the basic functions of your phone before doing any restore, eg, wifi, data, etc.

Hey G60, after I installed the latest version, the play store is telling me half my apps aren't compatible with my device. Titanium Backup won't restore them either. I have tried reflashing. This has never happened before on this or any other ROM. Any idea what the problem could be?

Go into settings < apps < play store < delete all data and clear cache

Thanks should fix you right up :)

Just a heads up but when I flashed the 11/13 version then Google Now and finally gapps my Home key would give haptic feedback but not function properly. Re-flashed to the same results. Works fine without Google Now, and Now worked perfectly with voice etc. has anyone else had this issue or might I just have a bad .zip?

With the 11/13 build, I am getting lockups and fc's with both SMS Popup and SMS Enhancer (with the latter being based on the former's source) any time I attempt to choose a ringtone either for custom contacts or the default tone. Reverting back to the 11/12 build fixes the problem. I checked the .zip's MD5 and it matches what's on the MTDEV CM9 rom browser site, and I have done several complete wipe/reflashes. Currently I'm back to running the 11/12 build but if you need a logcat, I can switch back to 11/13 build. I didn't notice any other apps that froze and choosing a ringtone under Settings/Sound does not freeze the phone or FC. Any ideas?

Wonder if the kernel memory changes I imported from ics_chocolate are causing issues. If you would be willing to copy the boot.img from 11/12 and place it in 11/13 and try again I would appreciate it.

Anybody else having bad battery life? On all the versions of this rom I have been using, while the screen is off battery level virtually doesn't change, but when I actually use the phone the battery level drops from full to empty in under 2 hours of usage. Something I have been wondering about is that when I downloaded an app to monitor what is using the battery, since the stock battery usage in settings doesn't work, I saw 94 percent of my battery was being drained by Android System. Everything else was miniscule, like screen at 4% and my browser at 2%. Why is this? Do I have a bad flash?
