Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

So I see the internal space issue has already been addressed. I went back to the 1/31 build, was working fine, I had 40 MB left instead of 7. I never had the problem with the Market insufficient space error anyway.

I don't use link2sd anyway, I keep most apps on my phone so they're faster. My card isn't a fast one.

I still think you're awesome though Jerry!

I'm going to give this a couple weeks feedback, and see what users report. Then I'll make a decision as to which way to do it, the old way or the new (which is really the real old way ;)).

I ran out of space instantly, then just went through and pushed some apps to sd that I had never bothered to before because of link2sd. I pushed a handful of apps over, and everything is shiny again!

I'm having trouble with Link2SD.. I bought a 32gb class 10 microSD card and used the IHO Recovery to create a 2GB ext partition. I tried creating the mount script but I get this error:
"Mount script cannot be created
Mount: /dev/block/vold/179:2 on /data/sdext2 failed
Device or resource busy"

I think I got this error before but I'm not sure what I did to fix it. Any ideas? IHO partitions the sdext to ext4 right? I tried all ext2, ext3, ext4 in Link2SD but gave me the same error =[ I love link2sd and my 250 apps -sadface-

Two afflictions making huge appearance here:

1- Flash addiction
2- App hoarding

I'm going to have to consult with a professional on how best to proceed with therapy! ;)

Seriously though, I'll leave advice on links2sd up to those who use it, so I don't give out the wrong advice!

This is a problem with updates I've used link2sd for about a year and never got that to work. You need to do a full wipe then follow my tutorial http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=3900136 it's very easy to follow with pictures on each step.

But I don't use Titanium Backup.. I just redownload the apps after a fresh install especially since most of them I end up just not using anymore XD

Everything you stated in your previous tutorial (not including the Titanium Backup) I always followed except for using the Minitool. Maybe using the IHO Recovery to make a partition could be the culprit..? o.O

Now with 01mvdalvik functionality removed, the dalvik-cache files stay in their normal directory, which is your internal space is taken up. You can use TB's integrate dalvik to system function to fix this,

I tried that for the 1st time. It integrated 15.1 meg. The internal space gained was negligible. I have 15-20 meg less internal space after flashing 0206. I still have 125mb free so it's not that big of a deal.

So with this build, this would no longer work?

# cd /cache
# mv download download.old
# mkdir -p /sdcard/cache/download
# ln -s /sdcard/cache/download download

Is that something that could that be integrated into the next build so its done automatically?

Working much better after flashing 0206. I was having FCs on status bar at boot, and I think system as well. Fixed by waiting, but still a nuisance. Flawless boot after flashing 0206. Very happy with this build.

Some notice on this change would have been really nice. I ended up with 0 mb internal and wasn't able to do anything really. Most of my apps wouldn't load. Luckily I was able to copy my backup of 01mvdalvik and reboot so I could uninstall things and have my phone function again.

I've run this a couple times and have never gained any space that I notice.

usually this turned out to be entering the wrong sdext.
first thing i always did was check it with mini partition tool and it was usually a different sdext # than i was entering.

data wipers don't keep the same sdext# example: the one i used early on would always change it to ext4 when formatting [ wiping] the sdext,
i assume wiping [formatting] in recovery does the same thing.

i keep mine on ext2 because i believe both IHO recoveries format to that.

that said i never [unless there is a problem] wipe the sdext and i've been link2sd problem free for 3-4 momths.

Is it possible to add foreign language dictionaries after installing this ROM? I'm interested in Swedish in particular.

I tried installing the Android Gingerbread Keyboard along with the Swedish LP from the Android market, which works fine, except the ROM seems to forget the keyboard settings after each reboot. Therefore I'd prefer to use the built-in gingerbread keyboard. I'm using the 01312012 build.

Thanks!

I'll see if I can build you an ime with Swedish. For now, the app keyboard you installed, be sure it's on the phone and not the sdcard. If it's on the sdcard, it will not remain your default on reboot. ;)

For those who haven't noticed: New build of BACKside-IHO is up:

BACKside-IHO-VM670-02062012.zip
md5sum

GreenMachineTheme-02062012.zip

Changes:
-Synced with CM7.2
--New Blade lockscreen ring style
--Options to set BT timeout
--Option to set compcache for those with larger app memory issues
--Option to enable-disable scrolling cache for performance
-BacksideUpdater gui and performance improvements
--added menu options and hide unused gui elements for cleaner look
-Added preference to bootanimation changes so users choice shows in settings menu
-Market fix by disabling 01mvdalvik should prevent out of space market errors, this may give you issues on first boot. Be sure to move as many apps as possible to sdcard. Will keep/change/revert this depending upon your feedback.

Note- I released this yesterday, delayed the announcement to see how many people would benefit from push notifications in the BacksideUpdater. ;)

Ohhhh dur, that was the problem ;-)

I am still looking forward to a swedish IME though as I'd prefer not to have a lot of unneeded things installed in the ROM.

Thank you very much for your help!

I am having trouble maintaining SD-mount on Ubuntu 10.04. Trying to make a copy of my most recent nandroid, and the phone itself keeps disengaging the mount, as far as I can tell. The highlighted droid guy on screen goes back to gray and the drive is no longer mounted. I never had this problem transferring backups off of SD card in Windows, but that was also at least two builds ago as well. Any advice, other than trying it on windows? I'll do try that after work and put it on my windows/linux shared drive. I would just like to not have to boot into windows just to duplicate my backups or move them off-site.

I'm still pretty green as far as the root game is concerned, so I apologize for asking, what I'm sure is, a pretty stupid question, but I'm terrified of bricking my phone.

So, I just flashed backside last night with the greenmachine theme. What appears to be happening is that my phone will get hung up and reboot when accessing the sd card, and sometimes while I'm texting. Any one have a similar experience?

Is your phone overclocked? what kind of sd card are you using? what messaging app are you using?
