Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

It seems to me that by setting compcache to 18% has sped up my system especially when using ram sucking apps like words with friends. Anyone else experiencing this or is this simply a placebo?

Also what is scrolling cache? Any recommendations for what to set it to?

Thanks for posting those questions. I'll be interested to hear what others say.

Words with Friends is a perfect example of an app that could benefit from compcache. You will have to experiment with the percentage setting to determine what works best for you. Any app that uses tons of memory should benefit from compcache, ymmv.

Scrolling cache is another where it will depend upon the user's setup and behavior. Try various settings, and report what you find here to help others determine how best to use these new settings. ;)

@ben you could use bigsupersquid's multi rom recovery to have a non rooted rom for that kind of thing. Just make sure both roms are gb or both froyo. You can't mix them because they have to use the same kernel.

I need to know how to hide root from apps such as movies by flixster

You might check into this.

[APP] Voodoo OTA RootKeeper (and temporary un-root)

He said,
On Galaxy S II, temporary unroot is working and allows you to "hide" root from stupid apps refusing to work as expected after detecting root. Its not really hidden but so far, those stupid apps (like Google movies) use stupid detection routines.
I don't think he made it just for the GSII. Just someone owns one asking a question. Its also in the app market.

Its also Open Source under WTFPL (github). Maybe Jerry could incorporate it as an option in a future build. :)

Tried it. It doesn't read right and didn't provide the proper option it gives options based on what it sees available and doesn't give the temp unroot option. As for multiboot I wanted that but didn't know it was working. Can I have a backside version without root? A very bare bones with just the apps that can't have root would work but will it work with me using link2sd?

Try opening SuperUser and not allowing that app to have root access. Then when you open it, and it asks, deny it. Be sure SU isn't set to automatically grant access till you get it worked out.

Creating a BACKside-IHO variant without root is not on my todo list! ;)

The latest update is unstable for me.

A couple minutes after booting, what ever is behind the lockscreen becomes imprinted on the screen. Even though the phone is presumably functioning as normal, you can't see what is going on because the GUI is frozen. In the image attached, the homescreen is fully interactive but the stuck app gui gets in the way.

Also, after the update an icon stating the memory was low presented itself.

It never asks for root access or shows in the log. I have no idea how its doing it. Would it be possible to build a non rooted variant? If so I may take the time to learn how to do it.

If it continues to do this after a reboot, go back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, the reflash the ROM.

The low memory icon is a result of the dalvik cache not being moved anylonger. Move as many apps to your sdcard as possible, or consider using one of the *2sd scripts. ;)

Even after reflashing the ROM I am still presented with the same problem. The problem is eliminated after flashing the previous version of the ROM, 01312012.

Moving apps to my SD card fixed the memory issue, as recommended.

I abandoned 2sd apps and scripts for smoother flashing. I lost a few apps due to the recent change,, TB and the market became inaccessible for me, so I was forced to wipe/format/clean install, and 13 hours later(restoration of all apps and restoring a text backup and along with all other settings and theme changes takes a while), I was satisfied. That's my only complaint for the new build so far, and probably the only one for this build. Other than that, keep up the good work!

02062012 isn't usable for me. I had ~32MB internal free before the update, and ~515KB after. Did not run well at all. I don't have any apps I want to uninstall.

On the previous build, I was still able to install more apps and would not get insufficient space warnings until I got bellow 20MB. Restored my backup of the previous build for now.

Here's the page I found for it. Step by step, easy to follow.

http://optimusv.wikispaces.com/Moving+data+directory+to+MicroSD+with+Data2ext

I like it becuase it clears up the system memory and makes your phone think the ext4 partition is your system memory.

I'm going to try this one with a full format. Thankies!

Oh and do you happen to know if it works like the app simple2ext? I had problems with that before.. >_<

EDIT: Oh and if I formatted the ext to ext4 myself, can I just skip to the last step? Or do I have to do all the steps?

Ya, if you have already set up the ext4 partition I would assume all you will need to do is flash the data2extV4 zip and enable it in terminal. (Don't take my word for it, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP)

I have never heard of or used simple2ext before so I have no idea.

Also, everytime I update this rom it's a full wipe. I just run into issues with the partition if I just try flashing over what I have.

Hope this helps

I lost 3G connectivity... anyone else ?
I lost 3G connectivity sometime around 1:30 EST in TN yesterday running the prior build. I figured it was just an outage....last night I upgraded to the newest build while 3G was still down, and my 3G still hasn't come back, though the voice service is fine.

I checked my gal's phone running Harmonia 2 this morning before leaving for work. Her 3G is working again, and was out yesterday afternoon and evening. Mine still isn't. Grr...

I've done the usual tricks, wipe cache and dalvik cache, reinstall rom, pulled battery and held power button for 30 secs, etc. Still no luck. I'm begining to jones for my mobile browsing!

Hate to flash to another ROM just to try the activation trick.....

BTW Jerry...awesome work on the ROM as usual!!!:D:D

I didn't run into the exact same thing, but I have been having issues where using the stock alarm in the morning apparently causes some sort of z-index issue or something like that. Basically only my background and notification bar are visible after dismissing the alarm popup. Holding down the power button to get the power options shows my regular home screen in the background, but when the power options dialog is dismissed, it goes back to the empty background screen with notification bar. As a result, I have to restart my phone every morning. Not a deal breaker, but it gets annoying. Not going back to a previous build though because this one runs much smoother than previous builds.

I just read through all 3147 messages in this thread, finally took the plunge and flashed BACKside along w/the Green theme (which is a great theme, just a lil too green for me lol). I realized i didn't have the latest build installed and installed 02062012 and my available memory went from 85mb to 7mb and my phone started acting all wonky.

I applied the V6 Supercharger and I noticed the menus in the script seem to have changed in the latest version (do the instructions need fixing??), not sure if the options are correct or not, but it does seem a lot zippier but I am having random problems that I didn't have before putting in 02062012. For example, yesterday, I was on a call, and in the middle of the call the phone rebooted, played the 'this phone will self destruct' message (which i removed as soon as I figured out how), and then got to my lock screen before blanking, giving me a _ prompt, and rebooting again (had to pull the battery).

Jerry, it's an amazing ROM and I commend you for sticking it out for us, I for one appreciate it greatly.

PS. I noticed that some apps that previously weren't movable since I upgraded, now appear to be moveable. Is this just cause they were previously locked by the OLD stock ROM? Should I be cautious. Stuff like Gmail, Facebook, Slacker Radio, etc. I know the Widgets won't function if you move them (the only widget I use is news and weather), but I wanted to make sure there wasn't some other problem with this.

Thanks again.

Chris (LONG time lurker) lol

ps. A couple of screenshots so you can see what i've done w/it :)
