Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

I lost 3G connectivity sometime around 1:30 EST in TN yesterday running the prior build. I figured it was just an outage....last night I upgraded to the newest build while 3G was still down, and my 3G still hasn't come back, though the voice service is fine.

I checked my gal's phone running Harmonia 2 this morning before leaving for work. Her 3G is working again, and was out yesterday afternoon and evening. Mine still isn't. Grr...

I've done the usual tricks, wipe cache and dalvik cache, reinstall rom, pulled battery and held power button for 30 secs, etc. Still no luck. I'm begining to jones for my mobile browsing!

Hate to flash to another ROM just to try the activation trick.....

BTW Jerry...awesome work on the ROM as usual!!!:D:D
Just restored to an older backup, reflashed the newest update, and 3G is working ok again. One of those things, I guess. ;)

ps. A couple of screenshots so you can see what i've done w/it :)

Looks good - just one question. You rooted and reinstalled Poynt? I thought that was one of the reasons people rooted :p

HAHA I know right! To be honest, I like Poynt and find it quite useful. It's the only app from the pre-installed ones I kept I think.

- It finds me local cheap gas (I can set the particular octane level I want)
- Local restaurants (with reviews from CitySearch)
- Local movie listings including their RottenTomatoes score
- Local events such as concerts, Stand up shows, etc.
- Even local offers similar to Groupon.

And..all of these will give you the phone number, a map, and directions that will integrate with Navigation to get you there.

Pretty cool app considering it's not that large.:D

Just to be asking, has anyone else had any sort of phone freeze on this latest build?

I know it's probably my phone, I've just never experienced a freeze like the one I just had.

Yeah I got that a few times too. What was on my screen shows up ontop of the lockscreen. Seems to be only when it is locked in horizontal. Worth it though now that I can fully use the Market now.

I got a question.
How come it isn't possible to just download the update instead of reflashing the entire rom and having to backup and restore apps, why can't it just apply the update and restart the phone (like stock phones). Maybe I'm just a noob and don't understand how thise works but this seems like it should be possible.

When flashing an update for the ROM, if you just wipe the cache partition and the dalvik cache you shouldn't need to restore anything. It will all be there same as before. I usually have to sync Gmail again but that is all.

But I get your point. That would be good but less fun. :)

Seriously? I've been factory resetting(via recovery mode) everytime I update. I thought that's what you were supposed to do. now that I know that flashing the update will be alot simpler.

Hey JerryScript. The newest build has given me a low memory warning in the task bar and my available memory went from 69MB to 31mb.
Used the updater the first time, manual download the last. Rebooted to make sure.
Didn't feel like a complete wipe and format so I just reverted back to my backup and updated to the 01312012 build.

Yes, that's an effect of the experiment with diabling the 01mvdalvik script from init.d
With 01mvdalvik disabled, the dalvik cache is not moved, so it appears as if you have less space. However, the space now available can be used by the Market, so it's a tradeoff, 100mg free and unusable vs 20mb free and usable. (made up numbers)

I'm working on a better fix, testing, will post when ready.

I tried that for the 1st time. It integrated 15.1 meg. The internal space gained was negligible. I have 15-20 meg less internal space after flashing 0206. I still have 125mb free so it's not that big of a deal.

So with this build, this would no longer work?

# cd /cache
# mv download download.old
# mkdir -p /sdcard/cache/download
# ln -s /sdcard/cache/download download

Is that something that could that be integrated into the next build so its done automatically?
Testing this now ;)

I didn't run into the exact same thing, but I have been having issues where using the stock alarm in the morning apparently causes some sort of z-index issue or something like that. Basically only my background and notification bar are visible after dismissing the alarm popup. Holding down the power button to get the power options shows my regular home screen in the background, but when the power options dialog is dismissed, it goes back to the empty background screen with notification bar. As a result, I have to restart my phone every morning. Not a deal breaker, but it gets annoying. Not going back to a previous build though because this one runs much smoother than previous builds.

I also run into this, in the 01312012 build.

I wonder if this issue and the one present in the currently build stem from the same problem...

Had the screen freeze, phone rang three times, my sister is annoying, couldn't do anything but use the power button to reject the calls. Only knew it was her because of the ringtone. "Your dumb sister is calling" ended up going to the previous build

Ya, if you have already set up the ext4 partition I would assume all you will need to do is flash the data2extV4 zip and enable it in terminal. (Don't take my word for it, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP)

I have never heard of or used simple2ext before so I have no idea.

Also, everytime I update this rom it's a full wipe. I just run into issues with the partition if I just try flashing over what I have.

Hope this helps

Running smooth so far! Now it shows 2GB internal memory haha  I can install the WORLD NOWWW!!

Oh and have you attempted to update the ROM whilst using data2ext? What sort of problems come up? I always found it such a hassle to do full wipes.. I always did it when I used link2sd (although not needed but sometimes problems do arise so I do a full one anyways). I'm sort of searching for something that won't require me to do a full wipe every update haha

Found the fix to the final bug in offline-charging. Now, when you reboot the phone with it plugged it, it will reboot. If you power off the phone with it plugged in, it will go into offline-charging mode, and a long press of the power button will boot it up.

The important difference is that a crash is considered a reboot, so if you are charging overnite, and your phone has a random crash, it will now reboot. So no more missed alarms or important notifications (phone calls, etc).

Will be in the next build! ;)

Wanted to provide some more information I found regarding the issue I've been running into with alarms and my screen just showing the background and notification bar. I can reproduce the issue by having my phone vertical, allowing an alarm to go off, then turning it horizontal and hitting the snooze button. If I don't rotate the screen, the issue doesn't seem to occur. Hope that helps with resolving the issue.

Enjoy the app space! :D

I've tried methods in the past to not do the full wipe but things always get borked when I don't.

So I've been playing w/my settings on my V and I changed my CPU settings to 480min/806Max SMARTA$$2 governor, but I didn't see much of a performance increase. I didn't change anything else like compcache or VM heap size and was wondering if there was some other option I was missing

I've had my screen lock up on me twice now since I updated to the 2/6 build. Had to pull the battery the one time.
Was thinking about wiping everything and trying a fresh install. Kind of glad to find out it's a bug in this build so I did not go through all that for nothing.

I tried doing another full wipe but it didn't work. I really like the blade rings but I can wait for another update.
Link2sd is still in development so eventually he may get it working just right without needing to do a full wipe. I know he's working on a major update to fix some issues so maybe that will fix it.
