Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Extra support for vpn was added in bits and pieces over the past month and a half. I hadn't had the time to test, so I didn't post about it. Glad to hear it's working for you! ;)

Thanks for getting that included. I've been meaning to finish getting my VPN server up and running on my router and tested with my tablet and phone for the past month or two. After weeks of frustration with DD-WRT, I finally got motivated last night and flashed Tomato USB. Once that was done, it turned out to be much more straightforward than I expected. I had never used Tomato before, but now I feel silly for waiting so long. It was dead simple. I could've saved myself weeks worth of work if I would've just went that route instead of trusting the not so warm and cozy confines of familiarity with DD-WRT.

Thanks again for all your work.

Question, I happen to be using the Clockwork recovery ROM, and I was wondering if there was a better one you guys suggested, or is this one just fine to use? Thanks.

ok, fix permissions from the Clockwork ROM just seriously messed up my phone, I think a new Recovery ROM is in order. I rebooted and nothing was working write and my apps are FC'ing like crazy..lost a bunch of crap :( Time to restore from backup

To fix permissions just open up terminal emulator and type fix_permissions then push enter and let it run. Super easy no need for app or use recovery. The amount of steps to use something else will be more than the letters you type.
I forgot, type su and push enter before you type fix_permissions

@JerryScript: I don't mean to be a bother, but have you had a chance to look at building the Swedish Language Pack IME that was talked about a couple of pages back?

No big deal, and if this gets in the way of the other awesomeness you're doing, feel free to tell me to GTFO :p

Hi:

New user and admirer of Jerry's work from a distance since I first rooted my phone!

I have a question regarding the new 0212 build. I understand that the dalvik's been moved back to the phone in this build and that some space will appear lost because of this. I'm fine with this as I understand that most of that space wasn't really usable. My main issue is that my phone's now giving me a "Low on Space" notification that I can't get rid of. (I went from about 50 MB free to 10 when updating on this build).

In semi-n00b speak, what would be the easiest and/or best way to get rid of this icon? Link2SD? Just delete some of my d**n apps (I've ~150 at the moment)? Is there an option to simply get rid of this icon at the top of the bar?

I've read the previous few pages and am not sure how to proceed.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I suspected. Here's my problem, though: I currently only have about 400MB left on my SD card, and the tutorial on the "Link2SD and you" thread state that I should make a 1-2GB partition to start with. And here's where my knowledge fails me: is that really necessary? Should I clear my SD a bit to make that size (or get a bigger one)? Could I just make a smaller partition? Or something else?

I'm not an expert but I think it'd be good to clear a little bit. Get a file manager like Astro and delete a couple things you don't need, I'm always surprised to see all the things that I've accumulated and never use. a bigger SD card would also be a good alternative if you need more space.

It really depends on your apps, there size and amount, I have 206 (I'm an app horde and allot of them use eachother to do different things) and have 2 gb because my 1gb got filled up now it's about 3/4 filled up (the partition)

Thanks, all.

My SD card's still the 2GB stock, which has served me fairly well, surprisingly (the only audio I carry on it are Pilates exercise routines and a rotating set of podcasts). So I'll probably bite the bullet and buy an 8GB one soon (they're pretty cheap - but then again, so am I! :p).

In the meantime, I'll try to clear some stuff up, although it's not easy telling exactly what's clean-able, and I don't want to go around deleting any ol' thing when I'm not sure what it does. I do have a file manager (Total Commander) that I use to poke around, though.

Thanks, all.

My SD card's still the 2GB stock,.

Do you have your apps backed up? If not, get something like Titanium Backup, then move that backup off your SD card to your computer. Uninstall everything except what you can't live without. Then when you get an 8 gig card, move the backup back to it and restore what you like.

Yep, I backup with Titanium Backup. I just followed your advice after making a current app backup and cleared up enough memory for the notification to go away! I'll then restore once I get a larger SD card.

I think that solves the issue for now. Thanks!

FYI (in case you didn't know):

If you use the included ADW Launcher, go into it's settings, and backup both options.

Now if you have an issue that requires a full wipe/format, do the following at boot:

1- skip google sign in (you want wifi anyway)
2- As soon as you get through to homescreen, got to ADW Settings
3- Restore both options
4- Press back key and enable wifi
5- Press back key and go to accounts and log into your google account
6- Once the market initializes the first run, open market and download TitianiumBackup
7- Restore apps via TitaniumBackup
8- Press home key and wait for adw to re-initialize
9- Restore widgets (remove and replace)
10- Reboot

This saves you the hassles of having to restore your app's and widgets positions on all your desktops (that's a lot of plurals for a single sentence).

Saves me a 30 minutes when something I'm experimenting (ics) goes sour on me. ;)

Is this supposed to happen with 3G turned off? It's really draining my battery...

Sorry if this has already been asked/reported but is anyone else getting the "searching for gps" while using Google Maps navigation?

Even my location isn't showing up correctly:confused: I'm lost on this one.
