Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Jerry, would it be possible for you to implement more descriptive time stamps on text messages from the day prior?

Say you sent/received a text message yesterday, the exact time when it was received is no longer displayed. It's a small suggestion, but I think it's a great one.

Actually the option is already there. Go to the messaging screen with all your messages. Hit menu then settings and select full timestamps.

ive been following this thread for quite sometime, used it to root and mod my phone and ive been a very avid updater. ever since the 01312012 release (the one i keep going back to cause it doesnt have this issue) every update i have applied since that one seems to "eat my memory". i dont understand it, i start with like 118-120 mb free space and after update it goes down to 74-72mb free. what gives? am i not doing something correctly?

We don't discuss borderline unethical actions in here. ;)

My bad. Poor choice of words for sure. What I meant was has anyone had any luck getting help for a hardware failure after fully disclosing their mods?

Still no luck getting SD mounted or USB connected to PC. I've tried formatting the SD card with no success. I can connect adb wireless, but don't think that leads anywhere. From recovery if I try to mount the USB I get an error saying something like E: ums lunfile not found. Guessing it needs the SD card to work?

Unless I'm missing something (which I probably am) all the unbrick/unroot guides I've seen need SD. I'll probably go buy a new phone tomorrow and use this on as a backup. Suggestions welcome.

Yes, but what's the point of having 100mb of unusable space? ;)

What used to happen is the 01mvdalvik script would move the dalvik cache to the same partition your market downloads would go to. This made it appear you had lots of extra space since dalvik cache was moved, but the Market would check the download folder for space, and since dalvik was in that partition, the Market wouldn't allow you to download/update and gave an insufficient space error.

Now with 01mvdalvik functionality removed, the dalvik-cache files stay in their normal directory, which is your internal space is taken up. You can use TB's integrate dalvik to system function to fix this, just be sure to undo it before you install another ROM or you'll have to reflash gapps. ;)

You can also use any of the *2sd scripts, but I do not support them, too many issues with so many different versions. JerryScript

well that explains the mysterious lack of space error i would get lol

I need help. I just rooted my OV today and followed the instructions for installing backside and everything seems to work until it's time to run backside for the first time. Everytime it boots up it freezes at the animated droid opening. I've tried loading older versions of backside but everyone of them does the same thing each time. Any ideas what could be causing this issue and how to fix it?

It could be an issue with your recovery, I know the IHO recovery has some USB issues, and I've experienced the lun file error myself.

If you have an older phone, try using xionia recovery and mount/unmount the sdcard as needed. If you have a newer phone, you'll need to stick with a compatible recovery (such as IHO), which means using adb wireless and issuing the proper mount commands via adb.

I have successfully helped users do a complete wipe/flash/install using only their phone (ahhh the good old days eh Andy?). I have also helped a user do a complete wipe/flash/install with no sdcard by using the data partition as a storage space. Basically, where there's a will, there's a way. ;)

@jerryscript - I'm willing to try, total newb (nuub? nube?) though and barely starting using adb today. Also, I don't want to hijack this thread. What's the proper protocol here?

If you can wait till tomorrow evening, I'll put aside some time to try to help you via chat/remote-desktop. PM me, but don't expect a response till tomorrow, I've got special plans this evening. ;)

I just installed this ROM, my first time doing one of these. I flashed the gaps file, but when I booted my phone with the new ROM, Gmail and other Google apps were missing. Did I do something wrong, or am I supposed to download them from the Marketplace?
Thanks

Do you have the market app after flashing gapps? Its been so long I can't remember if I had to d/l gmail. But you should have the market app if gapps worked.

...

-The 1st bootanimation is comprised of 8bit RLE images, and I'm definitely not a graphics designer, so I don't know how to make ones that look nicer. Submissions welcome (no promises I'll use though), 320X480 png 8bit raw, 12 images total. ;)

If you do find the time to create a 1st bootanimation, here are the instructions for creating RLE images.

xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM+Kernel] Inferior Human Organs unofficial CM7.1

If you aren't running a linux box, just create the PNGs as mentioned in that link, and I'll batch convert them to RLEs. I do have a to565 binary for W7, but it's only pre service packs, so it probably won't work for most people (there may be other W7 to565 binaries floating around, but I use Ubuntu so I haven't searched).

Please manage to keep BACKside in there somewhere, the name is a tribute to those who made the ROM possible! ;)

Not a graphics designer either, but here's my simple first attempt... 12 PNG files as required: Bs02.zip (61.23KB). Changes and/or suggestions are welcome--keep in mind that I'm just a novice GIMP user. :)

Thanks. I did have the Market and I've since downloaded Gmail, Maps, etc. I've also restored some apps from my Titanium Backup -- that won't cause any problems, will it?

Thanks Jerry and all who worked on this ROM. It's very cool

Hi. So I have the issue with my screen freezing in order
for me to fix it I have to turn the phone sideways. Its normally when
it locks itself or when I unlock it.?
I really love backsides customization I like backside a lot
but it keeps forcing all the apps I use the screen problem and
The awd launcher always launches after reboot or start up
and I've never been a fan of awd or whatever it is
. Anyway i can uninstall it? Its a little irritating because this issues
always happen. Is it just my phone?
Also the fb won't stay sync and a few other apps don't
start up automatically when set.
Any info will be very helpful! Thank you!

The freezing is due to the ICS rotation animation bug. Go to settings, cyanogenmod settings, display, uncheck ICS rotation animation then reboot. ADW is the stock launcher with BACKside so if you don't like it you can use another launcher. I personally use Zeam. Hope this helps.

I'm using go launcher the problem is every time I reboot
it makes me have to select go launcher and adw freezes on me t
Thank you ill try what you said

Love everything else with iho!

I use ADW Ex, and I have no problem with that. One thing I have noticed with both ADW and ADW Ex is after a reboot, you will get a single "not responding" error every time. Just click "wait," then...well, you wait. About fifteen seconds later, it runs smooth as butter.

Running the 02-19-2012 rom without any themes here. It is extremely good and works better for me than the 01-31-2012 release. This rom is the main reason I keep my V because I would sure like a larger screen some days.

BTW, I have rotations off in the launcher and have all animations disabled. Some people really dig animations, but I prefer instant transitions.

IMO, it would be a good idea for the CM7 developers to hold off on new features for a few weeks while they squash enough bugs to do a "stable" release. Then, they can go back to the bleeding edge.

Sorry totally off topic......

ron scubadiver - Saw in your signature about the photography, since I'm a photo enthusiast I had to check them out.
Love the scenery shots. Wanna go kayaking on Wailua River with my new touring kayak I got about a month ago....
Whats the story with the Blue Tunnel? Looks very interesting.
