Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

Hello all

I made the mistake of calling my builds nightlies as they're anything but. (Nightly would assume an autobuild every night). So, I'm changing my versioning to CM7-Ascend-MMDDYYYY. That way you can still see what build day you're using.

I've made making some radical changes to my github. All of this takes time. I'm not a developer. I just like doing this as a hobby and I don't even use the Ascend anymore.

Here's some things I've been thinking about:

1) I need to get rid of this phone. I haven't had service on it for almost 2 months. Also, since it's in good shape, I'd like to sell it while it has some value left. Something tells me Cricket/Metro are on the verge of releasing the "next best thing" soon.

2) While I have my device specific source on Github, there aren't any takers that want to continue what I've been doing. That means CM7 development MIGHT come to a stop. That would be a shame. Most of the devs that did work on the Ascend have moved on or don't want to develop anything anymore. I hope that somebody will pick it up and fix the disaster I've created.

Oh, BTW! I got the electron beam animation to work on the Ascend, but it goes frame-by-frame. Looks quite nasty LOL

Progress is progress. That's great to hear. I hope that someone decides to pick up where you left off so that we can "perfect" our Ascends :D

Thanks so much for all that you have done for our Ascend community Isaac. Your work is greatly appreciated.

sweet isaac.

? for ya, can you tell us how to properly apply the CWM 3.0.2.4 update? Mine keeps downloading it every time I try too from CWM n still says 3.0.0.5 for the cwm recovery and 3.0.1.4 for rom manager. I've put the img file in the cwm/download/mirrorbrain/cwm.com/recoveries/ folder n run the flash cwmr from rom manager.

You'll have to use fastboot.

Put the phone is fastboot mode by pressing and holding VOL DOWN + END CALL and POWER. It will stay at the white Huawei screen.

Then use fastboot to flash the recovery onto the phone:

Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-ascend.img

That'll do it. I won't go into more detail as there's so many guides out there.

note: fastboot = from cmd lol ;) I love learning new shyt :)

Had all that setup on my desktop but not my laptop.

Thanks for the support, guys.

As of now, I'm still hacking away at the Ascend. The build I promised a couple days back is coming today. I finally got GPS working again with the new libs. The new build will be in its usual spot.

Isaac

What kind of cookies do you want?

I can never say. I HAVE to wipe every time because I need to be sure my changes during builds work.

Technically, you could flash without wiping, but it's really up to you.
I figured as much n tried w/o wiping n it got stuck after the boot screen, re-flashing now...

really like the new boot screen too, anyway to replace the white one?

Great work too isaac I really appreciate the time you put into this so we all can have the latest n greatest w/o waiting on carriers n manufacturers :)

No, it's part of a firmware image on the phone. Or something.
