Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

Yes however the Xfinity app was compatible with my 'Device' when I was on stock.

Keep in mind that CM7 is based off the Android 2.3.3 OS for another phone. Someone had to take a copy of the OS and hack it so it would run on the Ascend. The market may be seeing that difference and think you are running something other than the Ascend.
Have you tried to log into the web version of the market and see what it shows as your phone/OS?

It has all of the information correct:
Maker: Huawei

Model: Huawei Ascend

Carrier: Cricket Communications

Well, I know that with CM6 and CM7, some things that showed up in the market for the Ascend no longer do. If this is an app you cannot do without, you may need to go back to Icarus, which is based off the stock ROM.

I can't tell you how wrong this statement is.

CM7 is a Android distribution that takes the original AOSP source code and make changes to it so that it can run on a broad spectrum of phones. Furthermore, a developer (me in this case) has to go and make specific changes to the CM7 source code so that it is TAILORED for the phone. So, no. CM7 was not hacked onto this phone. I did the same thing Huawei did in order to get 2.1 running on the phone originally. If Huawei REALLY wanted to take the AOSP 2.3 source code (and a newer kernel I would hope) and build for the Ascend, they could.

However, the build fingerprint that I used was for the Google Nexus S. This has to be done because (AFAIK) the Nexus S is the only phone running 2.3 ATM. The software (OS, whatever) does dictate what apps can or cannot show up in the Market.

@Lennatron: I don't know why certain apps won't work. Technically, apps have hardware checks built into them and if those hardware reqs aren't meant, it won't run. Like I said, the ROM "thinks" it's running on a Nexus S. So, in turn, the ROM probably thinks that the phone has certain hardware it doesn't. So when you try and use certain apps, it gets confused because it doesn't find the right hardware.

+1

good info...now alot of peoples can see why stupi zoombies would not work for the phone cause of lack of hardware...

hey issac, i am on the first boot for ur new build, im on metropcs, do i need to do anything with the mms, or shud it already be done, as in the apns?

oh, ok and for the sd card thing is messed up
but i jus plugged sd card into computer and manually formatted from computer and it works perfectly, and this build is REALLY faster, thanks alot bro camera works and maps works perfect, FLAWLESS!

Good to hear, I'm glad that you were able to get it working. Yeah, fixing GMaps and Camera was a really good thing. They were really the only things keeping CM7 as a daily on the Ascend. About wifi tethering, my hands are tied until I can get a bcm source code (which will probably be never). It probably won't ever be possible. :(

tested mms after new build, didnt send, so im checking if it works after a flash metro off gb....

oh yea, i got metro pcs and mms is WORKING, didnt have to do NOTHING with apns or anything at all
You know. Mine worked like once. Then it stopped, Then it worked again. I have no idea really but PG said he is able to remove the "Roaming Indicator Is Off" sign on MetrOFF If it's needed.

Either way, Glad to hear it's working for you! ^_^

Just for info. Flashed this morning, and working great. Used CWM 3.0.2.8, Cricket MMS confirmed out of the box. I did have to reformat the SD via Android, reformatting on the PC did not take. Other than that, smooth sailing. Thanks for the work Isacc.

Ok, so maybe my word "hacked" was incorrect. But the FACT remains that this OS was not designed by Huawei for this phone.

And Isaac had to modify the source code to get it to work on the Ascend, just like Pip had to modify the code for CM7 to work.

The software (OS, whatever) does dictate what apps can or cannot show up in the Market.

And this was the point I was trying to make. If you put an OS onto your phone that is not designed for it, you should expect that things may not work the way you want it to.

isaac and pip did nothing no different than the techs at Huawei or any other manufacturer does. They just dont work for Huawei.

Only diff may be is that Huawei techs have all the proprietary software as we have to pull it off our phones.

But Sinner your main point is correct. ;)

Okay. I'm going to just say this lightly and very politely. The fact is that Huawei would NEVER do anything with this phone that would make it even HALF as useful as Isaac has. Comparing the two would be like comparing the Trump Towers to the Projects.

Also, How do you think most of these roms end up working on these phones? Do you think there are no people working at Huawei who get these codes and modify them too? So what's the big difference between professional and people like Isaac and Pip? Besides of course a worthless job title and perhaps a piece of paper stating they can do it?

It does not matter if it was "Meant" for the phone or not. Point is that just getting it on the phone and having it work as well as it does deserves praise, Not complaint.

Just asking, but if they do not work for Huawei, how can they or you say that they only did the same thing that the Huawei techs do?

(cough) true that!!! :D

FACT: Someone other than a Huawei technician modified software.
FACT: People are installing this software onto their phones and are not finding the software they used to find using the original 2.1 or Icarus which is a modified 2.1.
FACT: Even Isaac said that the OS would determine what the Market would and would not allow the phone to see.

The software (OS, whatever) does dictate what apps can or cannot show up in the Market.

That is ALL I am trying to say. No need to rip into me for using one f*ing word they didn't like. So everyone STOP.

AND I NEVER EVER SAID THEY DID NOT DO AN AWESOME JOB WITH WHAT THEY HAVE DONE SO FAR. I MYSELF USE CM6 AND ENJOY IT A GREAT DEAL.
