Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

So I've been browsing these forums for about a week now and the one thing that jumps out at me, other than the veritable expertise, is the helpfulness. I can only hope someone could help me with installing an OS such as Icarus or CM7.

My problem is, I'm at the point where I would need someone to walk me through it step-by-step. I'm a bonafide novice when it comes to this stuff. I've followed the guides meticulously, almost obsessively, for installing Icarus and hardly got past the point of installing the 2.5 version of CWM. I took a look at CM7's installation procedures and just said "f**k it." I've factory reset my phone three times, gave up and upgraded to Froyo 2.2 in hopes I could forget about the futility and be complacent. Didn't last long, because I hear a lot about how great Icarus and especially CM7 is.

My overall question is: Would anyone be willing to walk me through step-by-step on AIM or something to finally get one of these things installed on my phone? Icarus, CM7, whichever is the most recommended. Yes, I sound like a complete imbecile as it pertains to mobile devices, but it's worth a shot.

I'd really appreciate it.

I'm sure someone would. I would, but I'm no expert. I wouldn't be able to answer many detailed questions.

I was nervous about installing CM7 on my phone, too, but Tokenpoke's guides are step by step, and worked great for me. I didn't know what I would do if I can across something I didn't know about, but it all went smooth as butter.

Hi and welcome, we all here to help you get up and running and if you need help, its just a click away, need some info from you also, what carrier you with it seems to be metro since you tried 2.2 out. and also would you want 2.3 froyo which is cm7 or 2.2 Gingerbread which is cm6. and i can help you threw im also if needed. :D

I have CM7.. And for some reason, every once in awhile my phone will say that the SD card has been unexpectedly removed even though I haven't even touched it, tried to mount it on my computer, or anything. This causes a problem being as most of the apps I use on a regular basis are on the SD card and won't launch. When I reboot the phone, it's fine and the SD card is there.

CM7 was working just fine for me up until this started happening. I have a theory that it has to do with CM7's apps2sd, because this only started happening after I starting moving some of my larger apps (like facebook and netflix) to the SD card to help save some space. Any ideas on what I can do to stop this? Or at least what might be causing it?

Sorry about the silly typo in the title. Lol.

did you try removing the apps from the sd and putting them on a few at a time it sounds like one or more of them is causing the problem some apps just dont like being on the sd id say thats your problem i hope this helps you

Oh wow, that'd be great.

I have Froyo version 2.2.2 on a Huawei Ascend from Metro.

I'll install whatever you recommend in all honesty.

I've been thinking it might have something to do with pernissions that cause force closes... I don't know.

It varies from phone to phone. You just have to fine tune the PERFORMANCE settings in CYANOGENMOD SETTINGS until you find what works best for your phone.I personally would start @ 600 HI/245 LO with the governor set @ INTERACTIVE.

i guess its time for a new phone then better and faster :]

Looks to be that way. I'm pretty satisfied with my Optimus V, but I've got my eye on the new Motorola Triumph. It's a fairly high-end phone with really nice features.

Here's hoping that it doesn't have a locked bootloader. That would really ruin the party.

Huawei has some nice new phones coming, but personally, I'd steer clear of them. When I got my OV, the source code was released literally a week later. It contained the kernel and ROM source. Since the phone was fairly standard, it only took a short time after for the community to root it and throw a custom ROM on there. I don't get Huawei. They still have yet to release the original ROM source code. They haven't released the .32 kernel and their website and support page is heinous.

it being a moto, I'd look for it to have a locked bootloader ;)

That's not necessarily true. After people made a huge stink about HTC and their locked bootloaders, Moto might follow the trend with the Photon: Motorola Won’t Lock Bootloader on Newly Announced Photon 4G? Is There Hope for the DROID Bionic? - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

You gotta give the people what they want or they won't buy your phones. Hopefully, Moto knocks off all this stupid encryption BS.
