Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

So after following the advice everyone gave, I have CM7 running good. Overclocked at 710. The stock ADW that came with it I noticed a lag when switching from an app back to the home screen, from the app drawer to the home screen, etc. So I got ADW EX thinking maybe it would run better with CM7 but I still have a lag. So I was wondering whats the best aftermarket home screen app to use for less/no lag or is there a quick easy fix for this?

How many widgets are you running, and how many apps are installed? Widgets kill launcher speed really quick, and less apps makes for a faster phone.

go with LP, and also dont move any launchers to sd cause it will cause issues, even the same issues you are going threw now and alot of FC's

To troubleshoot this,I didn't restore TIBU or load up GAPPS & left it pure CM7.
An hour or two later,CM7 05142011 is displayed in both ROM MANAGER & SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE.
Definitely weird,but,harmless.
BTW,I do a total wipe,less SDcard,just to rule out anything else weird.

EDIT/UPDATE:

This was caused by installing the entire LCARS BOOT ANIMATION (STAR TREK) package.
I did not paste the build.prop over the existing one this time.
Video & audio both work,& the correct ROM version is now showing in ROM MANAGER & SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE.


Chalk up another DEE-DE-DEE to me,anyone keeping count? :P

I'm not a fan of widgets. Only one I have is the music player. I have a total of 64 in the app drawer. "Stock" and personal.


Cool I'll try LP out.

Just curious: I have SetCPU and have it overclocked to 710 max 245 Min On Demand (I never really played with it) and was looking around in the app and came across "Advanced" with the options of "Sampling Rate" "Up Threshold" "Ignore Nice Load" and "Powersave Bias" and all are set at -1, was just wondering what all that is and what maybe some settings ya'll use and what difference does it make.

you dont need setcpu with cm7 its built in...

CM settings/performance/lock home in memory That did the trick for me :) I am using 6 desktop visualizer widgets and flip clock on my home screen.
 
I Would just Like to publicly and Personal Thank PlayfulGod and AscendMaster for your help and advice in getting CM7 working successfully on my ascend. All it took was a factory reset of the phone. I then downloaded rommanager from the marketplace and used it to install cm7. Quite simple actually. But thanks so much again! Question is now, What can I do to make my "New" Ascend an even better experience? I Used the Overclock widget and overclocked it to 710, so its pretty smooth. Still a Little laggy on games like angry birds though.. Anything else I could do to make it better? Thanks so much again!!
 
Found a bug..... When I try to use a QR code scanner (QR Droid or Bar code Scanner) it causes my camera to stop working. Neither app will even load I just get an error message that says I might need to reboot. And after trying to open one of the apps if I try to just go to my camera it wont work. If I reboot and try to go back to the app it does the same thing. But if I reboot and dont open either QR scanner app my camera works fine. No biggie only used the QR apps every once in a while when Im too lazy to search for an item, just curious if anyone else has ran into this issue.

Its a bug in the whole ROM of CM7 ;) for every phone too that can do CM7. CM7 does not like camera apps
 
I am having issues with widgets not wanting to appear in the widget menu. So what widgets actually work with CM7 for the ascend. I would like a news widget a clock and weather widget a good calendar widget and messenger widget along with a gmail widget. I have launcher pro and the gmail widget in there never refreshes. Any suggestions on what widgets work. I would like to try most of what works so list away.

Remember, if you have any apps installed on sdcard, the widgets don't work. Apps with widgets are the ones you want to keep internal.
And the gmail widget in LP is a LP issue, I believe.

QR codes can be handy. You can still read them, but you have to take a picture of them, then run QR scanner and read the code from the picture.
 
I have read that a2sd is installed by default on cm7.. is everything installed to SD by default? Main reason im asking is because I read not to put launcher pro on SD, and if it is automatically put on how can i move it back to internal? ive looked through the help but not sure if typing a2sd remove will move everything to internal or kill something else..

wanted to do the same thing but was unsure exactly how. when i go through TIBU and long-press it gives me the option to move to sd but i didn't think that was right cause it should be there already (sd-ext)... so i thought to move to sd first then move to internal....but i had forgot that i had already frozen adw....long story short ---> I ended up having to wipe and reflash.... just left it alone till someone tells me the correct way to do it... i want launcher pro, handcent, and swype on internal....


Also, i noticed a new gapps file for download... can i just flash it or would i have to reflash cm7.2 first?

open titu and check and make LP a system file, and also in prefs make sure LP is kept in memory.

One more question on the subject:
Once you make LPP,GO LAUNCHER,etc.... a system app,would it be safe to delete the stock CM7 launcher(ADW),or just leave it on as a system app & run the new launcher by default?

I was just coming on here to ask the same.. Froze ADW and nothing blew up :D Just leary of doing the actual delete since i cant backup sd-ext..

EDIT: Was feeling adventurous so just deleted it.. get a FC of process.com.android.vending on reboot now.. not a biggy just a nuisance, not even sure if its connected..

EDIT EDIT: Wiped data for market.. FC Gone so all seems well
