Root ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition

personally i would try not stay on stock anyways. all custom roms have su cooked in. i would try mikg3.0 personally. way better then stock.

and what does terminal emulator say? in te did you type su? what happens?

well if i was to use a custom i would want the clostest to the htc sense i like it better then the samsung version for the prevail. anyways i type in SU it says this...

reloc_library[1312]: 8123 cannot locate '_ZNK7android6Parcel15setDataPositionEj'... CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE

oh another side note. im getting htc.bgp keep coming up i need to force close idk what thats about i dont have any gsp on or wifi on sometimes and it still does it. smh too many issues

well if you like sense then you will love mikg3.0. it is is sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 cooked together to form a super rom. it is very fast and very stable. mik is IMHO the best dev out there. you can even flash his tweaks to make the rom even better. here is the link:MikG v3.0 [12/17/2011]. download the v3.0 first. the tweaks you can do later.

Yes if you didnt like the stock prevail look then you dont like the AOSP roms.

I think a factory wipe and the zzwipe would take care of the problems. make sure you put that rom on your sd card, and the zz wipe zip then in recovery you can just go to install zip from sd choose the zz wipe when it finishes go back in and choose the rom

i was just about to flash it where is the zzwipe zip file? i already got the rom on there and did a factory reset]

edit: i mean the zip for the rom is on the sd card right now and i reset it just now

edit edit: cant find zz wipe but i am looking for super wipe im gonna try that one i guess just gotta find it and make sure i know what to do lol dont wanna brick this phone after two weeks worth of flashing x_x.

much thanks to the big N O right here ^^ helped me out a lot

WOW you know what i noticed? ill put a zip right and then goto flash it it says its bad like the SU i tried. i just tried to top the file from mount and it was corrupt and the file i have on my computer is fine smh

nevermind scratch that ALL the zip files abort. some of them open goto install then something happen and abort and the rom i tried says its bad but its not......augh this HAS to be the phone or something im going to try and format the sd card again see if that fixes anything

tried the same files again after format the two superwipes aborted but it seems the rom is installing its at extracting new system files now

edit: SOOOO i flashed the rom then i got to do something make a call or whatever it says move the ring and then once i do that itll force close a bunch of things....and the last thing that doesnt go away is android.process.acore .....

anyone got something else i could try i just need a rom that works and will play all my music without giving me problems

nice i got the mod to work THANKS its a nice mod too just fixing up everything on the phone now. hopefully i wont have music issues now :) if not oh well at least i got SU now and can tether

all those FC are normally caused by apps not getting wiped you should if you continue to have trouble use the zz wipe ocn breze pointed me too. it seems to work wonders.

yeah i still got that from when you helped me out. it says it was a bad file. either way i got it to erase with this other program and then i installed the rom on there it works GREAT :) but im still having issues with the music

Ok, I have a question on unrooting. A buddy of mine has a rooted EVO running hboot 2.10, froyo I believe. It was rooted with unrevoked, has Amon_ra and runs fine....BUT it wasn't activated on a Sprint account. In a failed attempt to activate it, a Sprint rep asked if the phone was rooted, suggesting that if it was, it wouldn't take the programming of mdn and msid. My question is, could I use any ruu file to unroot it? It would only be temporary, just to get it activated, and back to root.

I haven't tried it but I understand you can get it activated with sprint with the right rom.

have you tried just loading the latest stock rom? we have a link to it in our all things root thread, in the Roms and kernels part.

well a ruu will not unroot the phone. you will need to flash the unrevoked s-on tool first to get s-on. but a ruu will give you stock and keep root. all you will need to do is after it is activated is to install a custom recovery again and you are good to go. but flashing a stock rooted rom is also another and easier way to do it.

Thanks for the help guys! I was already downloading a stock ROM when I thought about this: if he followed a similar guide to what i used, he should have made a nandroid backup right after rooting and before flashing his ROM. Luckily he did, and I told him to just do a factory reset, then restore that backup and try the programming again. It worked! He flashed synergy on it again and got everything up and running.

I unrooted my phone because i need to take it in to get it fixed now I am trying to get my phone back to stock ota and stock recovery but the download link is corrupt any ideas?

ok so what exactly are you doing? are you fully unrooted? or are you trying to unroot still? or are you trying to re-root?
