Root The "Fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3d" thread

Flashed your hboot and now I am stuck in a bootloop...it gets the HTC screen, then after a few seconds it goes blank then reboots after a few more seconds. I am rooted unlocked and s-off.

edit: figured out it's because I was still on the bone stock rom. Got it fixed now.

Is it possible to do all of this without s-off? Getting s-off looks really hard and I'm not sure where to start. If you can help, shoot me a pm. Otherwise, I rooted, unlocked the boot loader and installed twrp.

No you definitely require s-off both for flashing the hboot and radio listed in the thread, it's not as complicated as it reads on a page. Either check out our own juoponutbear thread or go to unlimited.io to get it straight from the horses mouth. Common Questions

Will this work with _____ rom.
It needs to be based on Sense in order to make these changes. CM, MIUI, AOKP, etc.. will NOT work. However, once completed, you are free to flash any of those.

Does MMS work?
Everything works, but much better.

What radio, pri, etc, is this?
See the first post, it's included.

Can I go back?
Yes, with the modified Hboot, flashing back is simple, but honestly, I don't know why you would want to, this si just such a major improvement. The only reason i would go back, is if I was selling, at which point, I would flash the RUU and sell it bone stock.
How would one go about returning to the default radio and
PRI settings?

Thanks man! That looks a lot easier now. I saw that it doesn't work with Windows 64-bit.. Sadly I can't install anything else :(

After flashing Hboot, Radio and PRI, my phone is bootlooping. It gets past the htc logo, then it's a black screen (backlight on) for about 15 seconds, then it reboots. I've tried reflashing all 3, but to no avail.

Edit: Tweeqit2's fix worked. Installed another ROM and it boots now.

I have the latest version of Harmonia installed but I am still dealing with fluctuations in signals and data, I'm ready to take this next step, but one thing confused me in the instructions for s-off, It said to make sure you are on the RUU Stock ROM, since I am running Harmonia, does this mean I must got back to stock (Virgin) ROM and then go through the process of putting Harmonia back on again? Thanks!

While unlimited won't deal with support questions unless you're running stock numerous people including myself have easily done it with stock based roms like Harmonia or in my case Midnight. I personally would just go for it with Harmonia already being installed but obviously it's your comfort zone and call.

Just download the stock radio. XDA has all of the radios and PRI and such., just check their stickies for links to the appropriate thread.

Honestly, there is no reason to go back to the stock ones as they are terrible.

Harmonia will work and if they ask, tell them you are are on stock, as it functions exactly the same.

Harmonia itself cannot fix the fluctuations, that is a firmware issue, but s-off isn't as scary as it seems and once you get the radio updated, the phone works great. It can still fluctuate (just not as much, but that is because it's extremely sensitive to changes. Many phones buffer it so you don;t see it fluctuate as much.

It didn't work for me with 64-bit Windows 7, but the Ubuntu live CD worked just fine :)
I put the Ubuntu to a flashdrive and got the S-OFF. Much easier than it looks. I have Win 7 64bit and didn't want to take a chance and also, I didn't want to uninstall any drivers.

I'm looking for the original radio & PRI to flash back to. Would they be in XDA's Evo 3D forum, or the Ego 4g? When I look over in their 3D forum, it has the same number as the one I flashed a couple days ago.

edit: When I tried to go to the links provided in the sticky, they are dead.

I think you can find everything here:

Updates from Virgin Mobile RUU:
From the 1.13.652.2 OTA:
VM_1.13_Base_Hboot_Radio_Firmware_PG86IMG.zip
Info.txt
md5: 53E6304A82D0D1B31FEBEFB382603948
From the 1.14.652.0 OTA:
VM_1.14_Base_Hboot_Radio_Firmware_PG86IMG.zip
Info.txt

1.13 for sure has the old radio. Not sure on the pri but it should be all of the original firmware.

Just a heads up. In the instructions on how to install this, there was a suggestion to install "MD5 Checker" to verify the file is not corrupted. I downloaded it, and it installed 5 more apps to my pc which I did not want. And when I went through to uninstall them, one of them actuall installed another app, which I caught and deleted.

Really??! That's odd. I have installed it on two computers and seen nothing like that. Are you talking about the pc version or the phone app?

The pc version. The link takes you to Cnet to download. I wanted to download it to my phone, but I still don't have inetrnet access yet. That's why I need the radio.

Just a few simple questions;

1) What is the absolute minimum (steps in the instructions) that a stock user could do to guarantee a reliable fix for just the text messaging errors and lack of signal when trying to make phone calls? The desire here would be to leave the phone completely stock, except for the fix on the text messaging and calling.

2) Leslie mentions that a Backup(s) is a must. If I'm stock, and I don't care about any personal data that I have added to the phone, would I still want to back up something? What important data is at risk without backing up? Step 6 of the rooting guide mentions to backup (4) things, how, drag files to the SD card or what???

3) In the root guide here;
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ing-evo-v-4g-roms-kernels-using-fastboot.html
Step 1 downloads a bunch of software, in 4 sub-steps. Step 2 says to "move the files where they need to be." In step 1, which of the (4) sub-step downloaded files needs to go on the sd card, it seems to indicate there are 2 things?

4) In step 1 of the root guide mentioned above, it says to download "The Stock ROM." After following a myriad of link to another link to another link to another link, I end up here;
Directory listing of http://androidfiles.org/Shooter
What am I downloading?

5) I see there is a second, more thorough rooting guide below the skinny version;
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...-roms-kernels-using-fastboot.html#post4451021
In major Step 1, sub-step 3, there is option 1 and 2. I also noticed in the s-off guide that superuser must also be flashed, so the question is; is superuser included in major Step 1, sub-step 3, option 1? Or does superuser option 2 also need to be flashed individually?

6) When I hit step 11 of the PRL instructions, it then says "Enjoy your new phone." After completing all the steps, and I boot the phone, is it still going to look like the original, stock, Sense homescreen (like it did when new out of box)?

7) Is there some point in this process where I boot the phone and will have to basically start from scratch by re-entering my Google username and such? At what point in these instructions does that occur?

8) Is there one single video guide that a rational person can watch that basically steps through all of the root, s-off, and Leslie Ann's instructions?

9) I don't own a 32bit computer any more, and the s-off package requires 32bit, but it looks like some comments in this thread seem to indicate that the s-off process actually always works with 64bit anyways, can I count on that working?

10) In the s-off, Sub-step 1 of major Step 2 says to verify that you are on Stock RUU. I have no idea what the "stock RUU" is or how to verify this.

11) During the rooting procedure, it sends you to HTCdev website. Ignoring all of the warnings on the HTCdev website about how they suggest you do not unlock the bootloader unless you know what you're doing, what phone is selected in the pull-down? Is there any other way to do this that doesn't require registering on the HTCdev website, or giving out my email address otherwise?

Now, it's just rebooting. It gets past the bootanimation, but once it gets to the homescreen, it reboots.

That's so weird. I have not had any problems from downloading or installing it on a couple different computers. I know Cnet spams some download links to get you to click on the wrong one. I wonder if something like that happened?
