Root The "Fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3d" thread

That's so weird. I have not had any problems from downloading or installing it on a couple different computers. I know Cnet spams some download links to get you to click on the wrong one. I wonder if something like that happened?
See my previous post. CNET does bundle adware with the download if you take the default option.

ok, so I caught the reboot with the power down option and went into bootloader. Redid the update, only now, it's rebooting even before the bootanimation is finished. It only stays on for about 30 seconds before it reboots.

Did you flash the whole firmware that includes the hboot? You probably changed your hboot when flashing and are on an incompatible rom. What rom are you on? And what hboot does it display in the bootloader?

Hboot 1.04.200
mazada's AOKP rom

you'll have to excuse my tardiness in responding, but I am abit down with the flu.

I'm looking for the original radio & PRI to flash back to. Would they be in XDA's Evo 3D forum, or the Ego 4g? When I look over in their 3D forum, it has the same number as the one I flashed a couple days ago.
Evo 4g is a VERY different phone, luckily, the file names will prevent anyone from flashing those files.

You want Evo 3d.

What Hboot does that rom say to use?
Did you MD5 the rom as it sat on your sdcard? Did you wipe everything?

1) What is the absolute minimum (steps in the instructions) that a stock user could do to guarantee a reliable fix for just the text messaging errors and lack of signal when trying to make phone calls? The desire here would be to leave the phone completely stock, except for the fix on the text messaging and calling.

You skipped about 5,000 steps to the finish and it doesn't work that way.

By the time you get s-off and root, all your questions will be answered. You have to start with those before you get here.

Says to use 4ext which I did.
I also just posted that I went back and started from scratch with everything, and the same thing happened a few minutes ago. I just lost internet connectivity, both on 3g and WiFi. It was all running smoothly for awhile, then stopped. I did use the radio & PRI from the fix everything thread as I was having so much trouble with the radio & PRI stocks that were given to me earlier.

edit: I did the MD5 on the computer.

Yah. It's those 5000 steps that you mention that I was concerned with I suppose.

Like the saying goes, the longest journey begins with the first step. The guides are well written and this phones forum has some of the most knowledgeable and helpful individuals that I have known. I know that it sounds trite but when you're done you'll look back and realize that it took longer to read about it than it takes to actually do it. :D

Because it's someone else's phone that I'm attempting to fix, I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before moving forward with it. Risking my own cash is one thing, risking someone else's cash is another.

I have a problem. I updated the radio, PRI, and PRL with no problems. I then installed a rom but now whenever I try to make a call I get a message saying "Welcome to verizon wireless your mobile number is either not active or is invalid. For assistance please contact your wireless service provider."
Any ideas on what to do?

Sounds like your phone is trying to connect to a Verizon tower which obviously won't work with Virgin, try just updating the prl, from the phones settings menu and see if that fixes it for you. :D

Cipher, what PRL are you using? Like OverByter said, a Verizon PRL will not work on the Evo V.

Honestly, the default PRL works for me. That and I'm too lazy and can't be arsed to change it...It took me 2 and a half months to S-Off the thing, afterall >.>

So I just got my EVO V 2 days ago and I have rooted/s-off and installed the Harmonia ROM. I have not activated my phone yet and I am considering changing the radio/PRI. I am trying to learn a bit more about it, I have been reading this forum and other sites to try to catch up.

What are the benefits from changing the radio/PRI now that I have s-off? Is the increased signal just for cell reception or is it 3G/4G as well? Also, would people recommend the PRL change as well?

Thanks for any help.

I actually wouldn't do anything else until you get the phone activated, some people have had difficulty with activation and the further from stock the greater the likelihood, that being said updating the radio and pri will give you better signal on both cellular and 3G, the 4G WiMax radio will not be affected. Unless you're having problems with dropped calls or connections I wouldn't bother with the PRL. I've posted elsewhere that I've been doing prl swaps for over a decade on numerous phones including blackberry, wp and obviously android. Imho it gives you the least (if any) improvement for the most amount of time and effort involved.

Could *anyone* please help with just one question;

At what point in the instructions for root/s-off/Leslie's guide might I need personal information from the person that owns the phone that I'm working with? This would include either their Virgin Mobile PIN and/or their gmail account and password that is to be associated with this device.

none of those...

Thanks OverByter. I guess I will see how my signal strength is after activation and come back to radio and pri changes later.

In the Hboot/Radio/PRI step, between steps 2 and 3 are we supposed to tell the phone to flash something, or will it just know what to do with the PG86IMG.zip file on the sdcard as soon as one enters the bootloader?

once the phone enters bootloader, it will recognize the file and you will have to just confirm...

Yes, but first make sure you're in Fastboot first. Then toggle where it will say "Update, yes".

Thanks folks for those quick replies, much appreciated.

Still waiting for Harmonia to download so I can flash that prior to proceeding with hboot so I don't get stuck in the stock bootloop.
