[Verizon] [ROM]JDX (formerly Jelly Belly) AOSP+ - v15 (7/28)

While we're on the subject of kernels, I may as well throw my unsolicited 0.02 in here :p

I have used the stock linaro kernel and I have used Lean Kernel. And, quite frankly, I can't tell a bit of difference between the two. Can you?

Not ME! I just landed in brick territory. Had to fastboot flash TWRP, mount USB and adb pull my SD to my Ubuntu laptop.

I couldn't flash anything after swapping batteries this evening. Thanks to UBRocked for his post about TWRP in the Jelly Bean Sticky. Yeah, I should have backed up first, just grateful that this method of pulling my SD through adb is working.

I know JellyBelly has been great for most of us, but after this, I am going to wait. Something is fishy to me about Jelly Bean and data corruption. I am no Android expert, nor Dev, but I haven't experienced anything like this with any of the phones I have owned.

I am tired and want to go to bed, but my night has just begun. 15 GB to pull to the lappy, then pushing some files, flashing said files and setting an alarm!

Trying to keep my cool here.

jmar

Dang bro, sorry to hear that. :(

You back up and running now?

r217/384gpu linked in the OP. Been running it since it dropped (around jelly belly v2.5) :)

I had already clicked on that link, but on the next page there were several different ones listed, thus why I wondered which one you were using :)

I haven't tried Franco's yet on JB, but even if it runs the same as stock you still get a lot more tweak options in Franco's than stock. If that matters.

The stock linaro compiled kernel that comes with jelly belly is really good. I get that same performance on franco, but at lower clocks 1036MHZ which runs cooler and adds a little battery life. The biggest perk for me are the custom color & gamma settings. I'm a photography buff and like my colors/whites as accurate as possible (although it's still not great on an OLED panel).

If your talking just regular phone use, making a call, sending a text, surfing the web, etc...it'll be tough to distinguish any smoothness/speed differences on any of the matured GN kernel builds imo

Oh no problem, was just pointing you to where the dnld was I didn't know if you knew ;)

If your phone's gpu can handle the 512gpu version you'll get xtra buttah!

I play it safe I guess as I want stability and battery life

3.4 feels much smoother than 3.3 was for me. Flashed first thing this morning to 3.4 from 3.3, no problems at all. Face unlocks works just like it should, not that I use it, but I know this was one feature that many wanted to work.

Thanks for the kernel input. I understand there's an app out there somewhere to control Lean Kernel. I know it has a slot for 1650 MHz, but my phone never gets up there. Having never pushed a phone that fast, I'd just like to take Ginny on a speed test ;)

Anyone here know where I can get such a thing?

Are you looking for lean tweaks maybe? jmar is the "go-to" on lean tweaks and LK in general here at AF. He's an LK die-hard and has really dialed it in.

Francos app controls LK as well, but iirc it doesn't have as many tweaks that lean tweaks has.

Well, got it downloaded, but just noticed he doesn't list any MD5 checksum on that download site. Oh well, going to flash it any ways. If it dies, I will just fix it...have nothing better to do...lol!

One thing I miss is Quick Overclock (If that is the correct name). I love how it would fine your min and max speeds for you on each phone. That hasn't been updated in a while has it? You get 1650 MHZ and you would be out running the S3 :)

Now that's the attitude right on! :D

Got Franco's installed and got the Franco Kernel Updater installed as well and playing with it some, been a while since I used it. I like the support forums on the first page. Something interesting is that he has a place to download Franco.Kernel Download and right beside that Imoseyon.Kernel Download. So, looks like you can download Franco's and Lean's in this updater...cool! WOW! has settings up to 1920 MHZ...talk about toasting a cpu.

jbdan,

Do you know if the updater has anything it in where it will find your phones min and max cpu speed? Also, what governor and under volt settings are you running?

Let me know if you want an MD5 from my DLs as a sanity check. IF I have it, I'll post the MD5 :)

So I was running 3.3 since it was first posted. It was literally flawless. Everything worked. I loaded up 3.4 last night. Two problems noted..unable to MMS, Nav takes two attempts to get voice to work properly

Not min and max speed not that I know of, but it will find and tell you your phone/chips preferred voltages. Scroll all the way to the right to "calibrated volts" check out the MPU, IVA, and core voltages.

Ha! Thanks! I went ahead and flashed it with no problems. Call me brave of stupid...don't know which best fits :)

Just curious, have you guys tried using a different sms program? I never use the stock sms program...I only use Handcent and it has worked perfect on every version of everything, JB included.

TWRP 2.2 with a keyboard is pretty cool . If ya haven't tried it yet, try it. Also, when wiping with it all you need to do is factory reset. It does it all for you :). I don't recommend using superwipe scripts, I read up on them last night and if the program is not written correctly or you get a corrupt dnld it can bork your phone like no other. Superwipe was written in response to one single version of CWM that was not wiping correctly 2 years ago.

jmar what gives? What did you do to your phone? Sorry to hear that :(

I've been flashing as long as you (probably much longer :p) and JB is no different for me. Haven't taken any special steps other than being patient on a Google logo screen

And 3.4 is very worthy for Anti, it is by far the best build to date. You have my stamp Anti :)

edit: and for the recored this was a clean wipe in TWRP 2.2

Also thanks to Chief for the recommendations on TWRP!!

Does TWRP 2.2 have a flashable zip like they did for 2.1? Or is it only a file to push?

flashed franco's exp 217

UC to 1036

so far so good, we'll see how battery life holds up

overnight on the stock linaro my phone kept waking up, maybe this will fix that

What I did was dnld the goo manager app here. Dnld for free and install. Open it up, click the menu top right (3 dots) and click InstallOpenRecoveryScript. Let it do it's thing and follow the prompts. This is the easiest method I know of to get TWRP on your phone. Of course you could also push it/fastboot the img as well.

edit: or follow chiefs link ;)

Also I like the goo manager app it's worth checking out!

+1 on the MMS

This is an odd one. It has always worked for me in jelly belly. I've always tested it to make sure. But in 3.4, until I toggle my wifi off it will stick on "sending" an mms through the stock app. Easy enough just toggle wifi off, but not the way it is designed or meant to work. Not a deal breaker

Thanks jbdan! I like this method. I one of these that downloads everything to my pc and then moves it to my Nexus via USB. This method is much quicker and simpler. :smokingsomb:

I ran it and installed 2.2, upgrading from 2.1. The only thing I don't like, is GooManager does not tell you that it has finished installing the file or at least it did not with me.

I just noticed as I was toggling off my wifi to check the send and receiving of mms....4G is instantaneous. As I'm touching the wifi toggle 4G is up right as the wifi icon disappears. It's always been fast aka within 1-2 seconds, but not this fast. Like it
