Root What's the best ROM out there?

ya know..after a major lack in new stuff over the weekend...I am beginning to think they just wanted that kernel ...

I have to admit..sense 2.1 with the bits and pieces of 3.0 kinda blows this last update out of the water....I can't see using it for much of anything at all, other than the kernel or even a VERY stripped down base to throw 2.1 and 3.0 on top of.

I am not entirely certain that everyone understands which roms are gb based vs. 2.2 based... we are going to be working on that over the next week

I believe the the question for most is not what os the phone is running, ie: 2.2, 2.3 but what form of Sense overlay does the rom have. Sense 1.0, Sense 2.0, Sense 2.1, Sense 3.0.

Me personally, I have no reason to flash the stock rooted rom with Sense 1.0. This is old news:p I would try the newer updated Sense roms:)

This is the site I use. I just rooted last month and I was looking for ROMs but was in utter confusion. I found this and got educated. Plus, it's updated every day.

Nice link.

I'm also about to root my EVO replacement and going through the current set of ROMS quickly gets me a headache.

I rooted last year with Fresh EVO and only once. So i have to refresh myself with the process and hope I don't screw up. :D

So far I am leaning towards MikG but the instructions are a bit daunting.

that's pretty close... but there are a few older ones I see missing ...

It is definitely well done...

I still stick with the newer ones are the only ones worth flashing..I mean who want's sense 1.0 anyhow?

As for best rom..favorite rom... ask me again next week... you know what my answer will be?

Piece of cake. When you get it rooted, we can walk you through it. Just remember that nandroids are your friend :)
 
ok.. so.. here is what i am thinking.. kingdom with 3.0 and 2.3.3. any of you guys tried it? where can i get the link?

Thanks. I couldn't get my replacement EVo rooted and found out that I did not have USB debugging set correctly so no matter what method I tried, ADB, unrevoked etc didn't get me rooted. (Duh, I feel so stupid) Now that I set it correctly I have root. I used unrevoked3 since I did not do the OTA update.

Now I have to decide between MikG v1.03 or the new FreshEVO 4.1 that was sent out tonight.

MikG 1.03 is an awesome rom. I would take that one over Fresh(though his roms are outstanding also). I ran it for a few days but went back to Kings GB for the battery life. When they get the source code for the new kernel, I will likely try out MikG again.

I've heard about Kings and I want to compare it against MikG, but which one is it on this page?

Btw what was the battery life like? Comparable to stock?

I never had my Evo stock long enough to get a feel for the battery life :)

I am running Kings GB R2 which is CM7 based and thus an AOSP rom where MikG is Sense 2.1 with 3.0 elements. I am not sure if we have a good link for it anymore as there are 2 releases after this one. I can upload it to you if you want to give it a go. Kings Unleashed are sense based roms but I believe(not sure) that they are 2.2 based.

Looking at that page , I don't see Kings roms listed there. Check the Roms thread stickied in the forum for good links.
 
If you click the link "Show All Android Roms/Builds" the older ones show up. I still use the XDA wiki for reference too
