Root [BETA]Cyanogen!! Landed!!! :) Go get it![Updated 7/12/2011]

I wouldnt say it should be a ALPHA because the camera/vid recorder dont work. What some are crying about being major issues are actually very minor in the grand scheme of things. Hell I seen Window RTM's with more bugs than CM74DX has lol

Wait. What? A video/camera fix? Where have I been? Are the pictures still grainy? ARE WE THERE YET? :p

Using the Miui camera the pictures are great, no zoom, but I would say my pictures are better quality then the blur camera. You can turn off the sound and the flash is easy to set. Took some great pictures yesterday of my daughter playing in the smoke from smoke bombs.

Video with the Mini camera comes out real nice as well, while 480p better than any other option out there...other than being stock.

At this point I would call it a HUGE win until CVPCS can get the drivers for these built from scratch.

To me the only thing missing at this point is HDMI out. I don't use it that often for it to bother me at all. I am very happy to have a good quality camcorder back on my camera. There are NO issues with stability for me, I have not had one random reboot or FC in the past two weeks. After almost 2 hours today I am at 87% battery.

VERY HAPPY

Happy 4th of July to all of you!

I agree. So far Cyanogen is working beyond my expectations. I can't wait to see what another month of development will bring.

There are still a few issues I am still having, which are bigger in my book (but others may find minor)
1) Bluetooth voice dialer failure
2) Landscape dialer formatting issues while in the car dock
3) Battery life isn't great, but far from unusuable

Other than that, this is running great. And the greatest thing about it...no reboots when I am using the media player!!! Nothing makes be want to throw the phone against the wall more then when my music cuts out mid bench press...

This one.... It still has to be flashed (ie not part of the core CM7 files), but it apparently fixes the camcorder issues. I haven't tried it myself yet, but people say it works.

Thanks to Razorloves over at Rootzwiki,

------->DX CM4DX users can NOW enjoy using their camera and camcorder.<-------
Also fixes playback of local video files. (Netflix & Quadrant as well)
All camcorder modes work, but the "high" setting records in 480p instead of 720p.
(720P is in the works)

FLASH ZIP IN CWR.
Camera & Camcorder Fix for CM4DX

Thanks to razorloves for this temporary fix & everyone else who helped.
This just in time for the 4th of July!
Will get some great video of my sons enjoying the fireworks :D

"in the grand scheme of things"?
so, if I read this correctly, adding a Dutch translation to the desk clock was way more important than getting on board hardware to work?
Yes the devs do a hell of a lot of work, and they're doing it without being paid to do it by us. But really? We have all pretty much voiced concern over hardware issues and battery life, but those issues are apparently not "in the grand scheme of things", since adding numerous languages is more important. I guess that's so more users around the world can notice the camera, GPS, battery, Bluetooth, etc. don't work yet.

again, you have to remember that the VAST majority of the fixes included in the nightly updates are for the ENTIRE CM tree...not just the X...it is 99.99% likely that the "Dutch translation" fix was NOT created by cvps...but by one of the other devs that are NOT working on DX fixes at all...

Understood, I was merely illustrating the point that he claimed it should not be considered an Alpha, because of the "grand scheme of things" comment.
I get the whole idea that it is not just the DX being worked on in this project.
This is now getting closer to what normally would be considered a beta, but actually, not quite yet,I think they jumped the gun on this a little to get it out to everyone (which I am thankful for), but I also think it should have come with an Alpha status, so it wouldn't be as disappointing to those who really need those "little extras" like a functioning camera. (part of my decision making on this device was the camera) and if it doesn't work, or I have to add another step every time I flash a new update, it becomes less enjoyable all around.

i don't disagree with you that this was less than a Beta software when it was released...my point was simply that your example pretty much doesn't hold any water because it goes against the entire structure of the CM update tree...

I loved this ROM when I ran it, but it was far too buggy for me to stay on. Will I come back to it? Yes, once all the hardware works and is in ONE file.
why do you think ive never even flashed CM7 yet on my X?...because im not interested in work arounds, and band-aid fixes for features that work 100% perfectly on the stock GingerBlur im running now...

personally i don't buy the AOSP hypejob...especially if i have to sacrifice basic hardware functionality to experience it..

Good point, Yawdapaah. As I have stated before, I flashed it and was well impressed with the functions it does have, but I can't quite live without some of the functions built into the device itself. I hope some of these things get ironed out soon because I would love to come back to it.

Bugly, why did you even flash something that you KNEW didn't have working features you needed? That is simply illogical.. and then you rant that this shouldn't be released in such an early stage just to get it out there. Some people have loved running it despite a few missing features, as you can see by this thread. People who flash this without doing at least a little bit of reading of what is and isn't working, like you obviously must have not, have no place to talk.

this is an internet discussion forum...this IS a place for any and everyone to talk...people are (and should) be able to express their opinions whether you agree with them or not...

Bugly clearly stated that he was glad they did release it so people could use it, but that it was simply his OPINION that the release should have been held back in order to work out some of the more major issues with the software..this is a perfectly legitimate opinion...

would we be happy with Motorola releasing a ROM that didn't include camera functionality and them saying "well, we are working on it...but wanted to get this released asap?"

he made it very clear that he has been impressed with the ROM but that its not full functioning enough for him to stay on it for now...I've seen Steven make very similar comments in this thread...but i don't see you calling him out with specific posts?? why is that?

I did do the reading, I tried the release, I was doing all the updates, I ran the "fixes", I chatted back and forth with other members and all that. I also was aware there were issues before I flashed.
That being said, I figured I would have a better working knowledge of the ROM if I had it running on my device.
As far as the "ranting" goes, I found that (at least on my device) the stability wasn't where it should be, and seemed to get worse as the nightly updates progressed.
This, coupled with the lack of a working camera, gps and bluetooth without third-party apps, was too much for me to deal with right now.
so I am back on GB .596 running Broodcomb4.
Also, my "rant" was mostly observation (albeit sometimes fraught with frustration) in the fact that there was no repairing of missing items, and there was more "fluff" added to the "general" devices, which, although I can not prove they affected performance, I feel they did.
did I say this shouldn't have been released? No, I merely said it should have been called what it was, an Alpha release, this way, less expectations would have been placed on its performance and this type of conversation would not have been necessary.
I want to see this project succeed as much as the next guy, but when bug reports are sent to the devs and it appears they ignore them, it gets frustrating.
Yes , I know they are working hard, yes, I get it.
Maybe I put more emphasis on getting things right the first time, since that is what is expected of me every day where I work. If I just ignore a customer complaint or if some little bit of hardware doesn't work, someone could die.

I can agree with that sentiment. To be honest gps and coarse location were the only things holding me back. The feature I can't do without is flat playback. That alone is worth the other issues.

@Metfan: I read your post about being eager to flash CMod7 and found it funny; you've consistently brought up every reason not to flash it but w/e. Have you stopped to ponder why your posts are consistently called out? I've seen numerous people take offense to your snide, holier than thou, all knowing posts. You are the one that needs to take a chill pill buddy.

Edit: Stevens remarks don't rub any one the wrong way. He also tries things before making blanket declarations.

Bugly, it's harder to fix issues on CMod. I stopped hacking solutions for problems because team douche have stated that they cannot use proprietary files in their build. Cvcps will fix the problems in time but I understand your frustration.

I've been trying to get the blurless GB build from P3droid, aliasxerog, and drod to no avail. I think it could help CM4DX a great deal.
I've been reading up on 2init and I think getting that build on consumer devices is doable.

My phone does not like this os/rom yet need's more work I will be on .596 till they can get these problems ironed out.

think we should cool off a little and regroup. I'm sure the fixes are soon to be there, just impatient. lol

What are your issues? I can take a shot at them so long as they don't involve moto files (as stated by team douche).
Also the unresponsive hard keys seems to be caused by unused definitions in the framework. You'll see the warnings in logcat.

I'm pretty much waiting for the all-in-one file to hit, like a RC type. Betas are fun for a while, but bug reports get kinda old.
The hard-key issue wasn't all that bad, just had to hit em twice sometimes.
Battery life was pretty bad and seemed to get worse as the updates came along (maybe apps running in the background?)
The camera issue is my breaking point, since I have a 2 month old granddaughter (personal needs on that one...lol)
No playback of previous video was maddening, I could watch the video, on third-party apps, but the sound was like listening to cicadas chirping.
GPS was wonky, but fairly predictable. I have a decent sense of direction, so ignoring the compass feature was easy enough.
Wi-Fi was hit or miss, even directly above my router (2 feet away)
3G signal (with and without the upgraded baseband) was not as good as even FroYo
I can't think of much more that bothered me personally, (I was at a wedding reception till 1:30 this morning).

I don't like the problems around here lately, seems for last several months we have been at each others throats over slight issues. If yall have a serious difference of opinion bring it to PM.

Be happy we even have a dev community here, my gf just got a cheap early upgrade to get unlimited data before it goes away and her phone only has 1-2 roms neither which are appealing enough for me to even bother doing it.

So lets just wait for an official fix while spending 5-10 mins flashing work arounds until then.

Wow! What's going on in here? I will be deleting some things here. It seems as if the same folks are getting into it. Please just stick to the issues and report thing that break the rules. If you take it upon yourselves to get into an argument, rather than hitting the report button, all you are doing is risking infraction/probation/ban on yourself.

Just report stuff and don't react, okay?

I am really liking this ROM I dont have the issues that some have. My call quality is fine, my GPS works, WiFi works fine just having to flash the new Cam fix. I can deal with it since my phone seems to be faster with this than anything else I have used.
