Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

Does anyone know where I can get the cacherfs.zip? Megaupload has been shut down and I can't find it anywhere else and I want to change my prl. :(

cant get swype beta to work. it installed but i select it in language and keyboards and when i put select input method it wont show. then i go back to settings and swype is disabled.

i have some scripts so i dont know if thats the reason. maybe some one with out scripts can try it and see if it works

edit: did a reboot and swype appears when i hold down to select input method but i select it and it just goes back to android keyboard
Make sure your swype keyboard isn't moved to sd card. If you're using a2sd or s2e. Anything that the system is depended upon should not be moved to sd card or u will find yourself going into setting/ keyboards/ and having to reselect the keyboards that u want to use. I'm still using beta 3.5 with hf2, it has it's issues but I'm content. Try "TouchPal keyboard" and "Slideit Keyboard" both have "swype" slideit has a lot of different skins and some are cool. Hope this help:)

First you do NOT need to go back to stock to change prl. download bloods ctmod and flash it(after making a backup of your current one of course) then use ctmod to open the dialer menu's and then go back to recovery and restore your back up. or flash cm7 back then restore your backup I dont know the best way for that any longer.

Second here is that file for when you do need it.

anyone is able to rehost it somewhere else its great with me this is just my home server.

My bad. I thought for some reason ctmod was an rfs rom. But I should have figured that one out as we all have been playing with ext since before ctmod was released.

most android phones come with /system, /data, and /cache formatted in ext4 these days.. the prevail didn't because it was right before that turning point and it's an entry level device but the Transform Ultra and the Warp are ext4 as well as the big names like the GS2 and the Razor and the HTC devices.. Thats why Cyanogenmod and Bloodawn are making these Roms in ext4.

is wifi dissconnecting when phone goes into sleep mode?

No and ni to the question above this one the wifi wont connect at all says dissconnected all the time I.don't have wifi router I use the areas like MC Donald's or tether from my moms phone and its worked.b4 I'm on 3.5 hf3 and works fine

I just want to add something that I've found . I've had to do several installs in order to get my CM7 working correctly . Last night I ended up doing yet another wipe and install because my GPS quit working and by golly I think I've done it !!! :D . Don't ask me why it's like that because I dunno , I'm sure Hroark could answer that question or at least give you a better educated guess than I could . Maybe because of me ????? HEH , I doubt it but maybe . LOL . I've followed the same install procedures every time . :)

Hmmm!
It seems I went from -96dbm on my test with gingerbread to -86dbm with cm7? Maybe its the weather here?
is there any way to tweak the phones responce to the tower signal while on cm7?

I think the lower the number the better to be honest.

There are so may things that can affect signal strength

A lot of people get confused because CTMOD and Stock has 6 bars to represent signal and CM7 only had 4

How many oggs did you get rid of? I wanted to add and change a few sounds. How would I go about this, sir HROARK?

I did not got rid if any, the ones that come with CyanogenMod are all there

You have to understand CyanogenMod is built from source and I only use a few of the files from the stock ROM if I absolutley have to.

If you wanted to copy some ogg files, you can take one of my hotfix zips and add the files in the correct locations, and re-zip it and then install with CWM

The only thing I have been frustrated with on CM7 is Battery Life. Everybody else seems to be raving about it.

Of course, my main problem is that I never put it down. Screen is always on. I guess I avg about 6 hours when I am doing that.

I got spoiled back with SHABBYMOD. Once New Optimus, found the solution, I was getting at least 2 days. Maybe 18 hours with fairly heavy use.

I know GB runs faster, etc. but I just can't get anything close to that now.

I finally broke down and reinstalled Juice Defender Ultimate. So far the results are dramatically improved.

To soon to really quantify but I will try to see what it will do.

I would prefer a solution without using an optimizer app. But, I bought it back on SHABBYMOD, so I will give it a try.

Things have quieted down in the last few days on new enhancements to play with and I had to do other stuff today and tomorrow too anyway, so it will be a good test of a lightly used phone.

I have tried some of the performance tweaks of CM7, but was not satisfied with the lag I usually got. I might not have tried the right combination.

Maybe I just want my cake and eat it too.

The speaker phone works perfectly if you are on the newest hotfix.

Actually, this is one fix for which many of my friends are thankful. The feedback from the older versions drove them to the point of insanity. Although, for some of them, that is not much of a stretch.

The speaker phone is definitely a handy feature that I use a lot. All my friends give the hotfix 5 stars.

I use Swype Beta, but have noticed no problems using it or the stock keyboard. Online or off.

Go into the performance section of the cyanogen settings and set the CPU governor to on demand. By default it is set to performance which leaves the CPU running at its highest frequency at all times

I have done that before and had mixed results. I probably changed some other stuff too that screwed it up.

I will give it a try and leave everything else alone.

Juice Defender definitely makes a dramatic increase in my battery when I use the phone like normal people instead of an obsessive compulsive fanatic. Guilty as Charged. (pun unintentional).

Changing to On Demand may help with fanatic mode. Performance mode has spoiled me, I am afraid.

I do have it set on demand tryex that in the beginning i had hf2 mever saw 3 come up so ill try that and reflash again mabey that will help

Gonna try the On demand sitting too . I'm going through two batteries a day . Actually probably more than that because I keep it plugged in to the USB some . I sure am glad I bought those extra Batteries and charger from eBay . LOL

So far, So good. None of the lag I had the last time I tried on demand, and the battery is definitely dropping slower. I don't think that I have tried it since the last hotfix and I probably also changed other stuff at the same time that I should have left alone. Also, I was using S2E then, not the Hroark solution.

Still using JDU. Be on the town tomorrow , will see how it does.

I do have a car charger...

I'm getting about 2 full days per charge for normal usage and pretty much 3 full days for light usage. I run with performance governor setting and Juice Defender (free version with default settings).

What I have found makes the biggest difference is watching what apps you install. Some will insist on running at all times (not cached, running) without any settings to restrict this behavior. Facebook, Amazon, Craigslist Notify, and (I think if I recall correctly) Titanium Backup come to mind. I removed all of these because of such behavior.

Ones that start on boot, I stop manually through Settings>Applications>Running Services. I also force stop Maps through Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All tab whenever I find it running and I don't need it.

I also keep widgets on the home screen(s) to a minimum or none, turn off (uncheck) auto sync and background data under Settings>Accounts and Sync.

For even better results, leave Wifi, bluetooth and GPS off unless needed and go into airplane mode if you will be in an area known to have no signal for a prolonged period of time. I guess you can probably set up JD to automatically do a lot of this for you, if you happen to have the ultimate version.

You may also want to try calibrating your battery... but if you constantly change out dead batteries with fully charged ones, that may prevent it from having the desired effect and/or precludes calibration because the charging cycle seems to play some role in the process.
