This is were the data part comes in.
All those settings are saved and you can restore them. You can also go back and restore them one at a time if you want or need to . Just select the app to restore and only do the data. Sometimes it's a lot easier than reentering the info.I've always used restore all apps and system data. If you only do missing apps you may end up having to update lots of apps from the market if the ones not missing were old versions. Either way though it will get to there.

ditto that.. without the license you will kill yourself. because without it you will have to act like you're installing everyone of those 300+ apps in that backup list. (it's like 4+ button presses per app) At around the 100th app install you'll probably just shot yourself to end the misery. Personally I just pulled the battery but that's only because my shrink took my guns away.

I remember with the d1 I would pay people to do it for me, I would just tell them to keep pressing ok,install,done I think it went

yep (mom's here!)...
so I :
1) Backed up system and recovery with Bootstrapper
2) Backed up all apps and user data with TI (donated version)
3) Started to d/l 2.2 file with ROM Manager and:
a) Backed up system again
b) Wiped all data and cache.
4) re-input all my user data manually and re-setup all my home screens to my liking.
5) used TIb to restore all "missing apps + data".
And now...I'm thinking should I still:
Restore all user data....now? or will that only hurt me? (by re-duplicating all my settings that I manually did?)
so I :

unless you changed the setting differently from your last set up restore data will not hurt it just overwrites the data. (and you probably didn't need step 3a) But it couldn't hurt unless your sd card is filling up.
when I do a restore I just select batch mode and restore all apps+system data or you could just do missing it's up to you. But you can do it all at once and it should restore your home screens also so you don't have to do them again unless you wanted to.
I would have done this (from your list)

and omitted 3a (if you didn't do step 1 then 3a is a must)
and omitted 4 (unless you wanted to reset your home screens manually)

When you flash a custom rom you want to keep that ron not flash another one so u restore just your apps

Whats Motorola's deal? First they pull the SBF and now this? I love my DX, but it makes me want to make the switch to HTC or Samsung the next time around.
Yes and I just double checked and had no problem.
BTW I like the new on screen button...much easier to press
EDIT opps I had it in a different res mode and when I switched back to 720 it does indeed have problems displaying it from the phone.. I don't have problems with the other modes though just 720.

It kind of makes you wonder why they would even bother with it in the first place.

Even with the C&D, it's meaningless. Now that we have the bootstrapper and CW/ROM Manager, we'll have ROM options coming soon enough.
Bring on the stock Froyo, even though I'm loving Froyo as is on the X.

its irronic since releasing the SBF would probably cut down on the amount of returns. I know I rather take an hour to figure out how to unbrick rather than send my phone out and wait 2 days for the exchange (if its in stock)
Also if they hadn't locked the bootloader, they would have most likely sold more units over all. I'm no math wiz but it seems that these two things would have ended up as more money in there pockets if they had just gone the other way.
Ironic now that the phone has been all but completely hacked (i'm sure it will be 100% hacked soon) so all this effort to save on 3 weeks worth of possible bricked phone returns due to hacking.

Yeah, kind of ironic ain't it? But, the X hardware has got to be the best hardware I've ever had for a smart phone...

for sure. Motorola has been real good at doing sleek and sexy but beyond the visual build quality things would go down hill fast back in the day (thinking of the OG moto razer). Because of he bad taist the Razor left me with, I wrote Motorola off for years but the Droid seemed to be as functional as it is good looking and innovative. Any obvious short comings the droid had have definitely been addressed in the Droid X. The hardware inside and out is the beast I have ever experienced in a phone. I heard one reviewer say it feels cheep and that blew my mind.

I used 1 click root, installed root explorer and renamed some apps to BAK about 7 items.
I'm still on 2.1 604 I want to get 2.2 but heck it looks like I could screw this up easy.
I have only 2 programs that have superuser access Root explorer and wireless tether.
I do not want to loose all my contacts or settings and I already paid for Need for Speed.
if VZW pushes the update will my phone loose root and superuser?
I like to see any easy way to do this sorry I'm lazy guess that's why I used 1 click root

flash the sbf, re-root, move su from bin to xbin, apply the update
