Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

I'm am in the middle of confirming the issue behind some people's wifi problems. It appears as if a borked wireless.ko module somehow got included in Bob's recent kernel release. Since my instructions do not call for formatting system, and I always follow the instructions I posted so that I can insure the steps work for others, I didn't experience the bug.

Two lessons learned here:

1- Please follow the instructions posted for installing BACKside-IHO, failure to do so will result in greater delays in finding a fix for any issues that may arise

2- Do not use factory reset, even in recovery. I have never recommended a factory reset of any kind for one simple reason, it doesn't just wipe, it overwrites with data from a hidden partition (similar to f11 restore on some PCs). This can cause issues with overlapping data bits. Imagine you have a file that takes up 6 bits, it gets overwritten by a file that takes 8 bits by factory reset. You then flash a ROM that overwrites the same area with 6 bits again. The way filesystems are allocated, this means the other 2 bits may not be overwritten by anything. This lingering data can and does cause issues of all sorts.

I should have a wifi fixed build up in a couple of hours. Check on the new BacksideUpdater for details. ;)

(edit: just noticed the post above mine from Jerry. Nevermind. It would probably help if I read first. hahaha)

When I try to do a clean install of the 1-18 build, wifi does not work. I hit the turn on wifi button, but it doesn't scan for networks. And I can't manually add a network either. Wifi shuts itself off after about 10 seconds.

I tried to do a clean install twice. Did the same thing both times. Am I doing something wrong? The last build I installed was from 12-21.

If you wipe the system partition, deleting the kernel, you will have problems with the 011812 build because there is something wrong with the kernel in that build. From what I am reading, if you go back to an older build so a total wipe including the system partition and install that then update to the 011812 build, only wiping cache and dalvik you'll be fine with wifi.

Jerry said the problem arose from people not following the directions on a clean install and formatting stuff that shouldn't be formatted or factory resetting.

I did fallow the instructions you have for a clean install and it still broke WiFi. That's without using factory reset.

I have to tell you. Trying to get my data2ext partition set up without doing a fresh install is quite a pain. Can we fresh install the 1/19 build???

*Edit*

I've downloaded the 1/19 build and trying a fresh install now. If all else fails at least I have my old backup. :D

New build is up:

Changes: Fixed borked WiFi module from 0118 build -- Added camcorder icon back in

Tested a bunch before posting, let me know how it works out for you! ;)

Thanks as always to Blarf, BobZhome, mrg666, LeslieAnn, tdm, kermikalelite, Whyzor, bigsupersquid, the CM team, the AOSP team, and everyone who tests and gives feedback!

The themes have to be for that build. I believe mine and green machine and g19s are all that are currently available for this build.
HA. I do remember reading that in the theme threads but that was so long ago....last weekend. I'll remember that now.

Looks like the themes will need updated again, gonna flash the new one tonight...

Forget that cup of coffee, nothing wakes you up faster than a good flash! Here at IHO, we flash more in the morning that most people do all day! ;)

my family did a flashing intervention on me

You can pm me anytime you need strength to overcome the ROM flashing urge, especially since the new ROM updates are much more potent.

Remember you can't do it on your own.

Hey Jerry thought I'd let you know it looks like the camcorder icon still missing for me anyway, but it's not important anyway:) Wiped cache partition and Dalvik.
