Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

If you're going to do "fix permissions" I suggest using Terminal Emulator instead of the recovery one because that will most likely mess up your phone more.

Type this in terminal emulator:
su
fix_permissions

Cool, thanks!!! And, if I do this, what's the worst thing that could happen?

From what I've read Jerry upgraded to the elite and will likely not be around the community anymore and we will not see any more updates. I'm grateful for the work he's put into this rom and wish him the best of luck and maybe we'll see him around in the future.

Fortunately, Jerry left things in pretty good shape. The 05022012 rom is very solid. I have moved to Harmonia for the time being, and expect to change phones this summer, possibly to the EVO 4G V.

I understand the "without warning" part. Otherwise there would have been a lot of whining. We should be thankful for all the work he has done. I am certain Jerry will do some interesting things with the Elite, although so far the developers are having a difficult time rooting it.

So, I fixed permissions, and all was well, then I was in Opera and the phone rebooted and I lost about 30% battery life. Reflash it is.
Sigh.

Never do fix permissions in recovery:

In terminal emulator type:
su
fix_permissions

If you get an error after the first time, close the app and try again.

Tell me what happens after that, and NEVER do fix permissions option in recovery mode. That usually causes more fc's

In custom recovery there should be an options to erase battery stats, either in advanced or somewhere... which recovery you using?
Jerry's CWM Green Recovery... but I just reflashed because I was having some issues with rebooting.

As JerryScript has mentioned on several occasions, you don't really have to wipe battery stats or install any better battery stats utility.
On every new ROM install it takes several days for the battery stats to be built up enough to allow for an accurate battery reading.
I would just wait for a couple days, then see what you get.

Hmmm... interesting... hey, Andy, I was reading through some threads for some reason (I don't even remember what it was, lol) and I saw you posted that you've had the Optimus for 9 months and not so much as a hiccup.
How did you manage this?

All LG Optimus V's are not created equal. There are variations and imperfections in the manufacturing process. Mine is an original 2.2.1 OS that I purchased right after bricking my first V in the tail end of April 2011. Just before becoming a member here.
I suspect the manufacturing plants might have been switched when they changed Screens and drivers form the Novatek to the Hitachi. I could be wrong, but the quality seems to have gone down a bit since.

It has now been over a year since I bought this V. Still Rocking and Rolling even after all the ROM's and kernels, and ROM and kernel variations that I have flashed. Even went a few months without a PC and was still having to perform my Guide duties. This meant that there where a lot of days when I was screen on charging for a couple of hours while helping here (heat got up there).

Trade this in on another phone: Why?

Lol, that must be nice. I have many bad memories of this phone and its issues... but now I'm on BACKside 0502 that looks like ICS!!! It's really nice, and ever since my flash this morning nothing bad has happened (darn, I just jinxed it...) but the battery life here is a bit of an issue. Storage, too, but I should be getting my 16gb card with Link2SD soon. :)

I have 150 something apps and still have over 120MB of space left because of Links2SD.
If your using JerryScripts recovery or any modified CWMod recovery for that matter, download QtADB. It will copy all the contents of the sd card, partition the sd card up to 2GB, format the SD card to FAT32 for the larger partition and the smaller partition to either FAT32, ext.2, ext.3, or ext.4.
I would choose either ext.2 or FAT32 for the smaller partition. ext.3 doesn't work on some ROM's and ext.4 can be a little hard on a system.
After it has partitioned the SD card it will auto transfer the contents it saved back to the SD card.
Note: It will take quite a while to transfer data back and forth. No more than doing it yourself, but, might be a little quicker.

Look in the ATR Guide sticky.

On the Optimus M it is recommended to wipe battery stats while at 100% and then let it decharge and then recharge it. I've read this somewhere a long time ago, I'm not sure where I can find it, but if I ever come across it, I'll post the link.

It was also the same method used for the better battery stats I think.
As everybody already knows, Jerry knows his stuff. If he says there is no need for it, it is because he has a lot more time and experience dealing with the issue. JerryScript can't and will not lead anybody astray. His advice has always been for the benefit of all the members.
I can think of only a handful of V members past and present that even compare to JerryScript.
Wish he where still here, bummer!

I can't believe he is gone.... :( Looks like I will be buying a optimus elite :) Although lately my service with virgin mobile is so horrible I am thinking about just joining someones free line on there family plan and paying them. Better android phone and better network. I'm getting sick and tired of dial up like speeds and sometimes not being able to call for 3 hours some days. My friends on virgin mobile have the same issue. It's weird. Everything with virgins service was fine in PA for several years, and now its gotten so crappy in the last 3 months. I have even tried calling them and telling them about it but they keep insisting its my phone. Everyone around me though is having the problem. But they won't listen and just want me to reactivate and other crap that never works.

oh. I'm ranting.....shutting up now :)

JerryScript isn't gone. He is busy working hard on the web browser app....

Okay, something's not right here.... even after a reflash, this rebooting problem still remains... not as frequently, but it happens. Also, I get an unrealistically high battery drain while on 3G.... about 1% every 2 mins.

You didn't get his memo about the security problem?

I still think its a bad battery stat build up.....

Okay, I'll try it. :p
But, the thing is, this issue only has happened when the phone has a low battery, and the phone charges like a beast. So fast, man.

If it's dying fast but also charging fast, it's not actually charging fast, it's not charging completely so when you see it say 100% it's probably not done charging....I think your battery stats are scewed up...

I can't believe he is gone.... :(

FYI- I'm going to be spending the next couple of weeks attempting to fix a glaring security hole in Android. Downloads are started without asking the user's permission, resulting in the Not-Compatible drive-by vulnerability to be exploited more and more recently.

I posted about this in several forums a few months ago, but no one seemed to take me seriously then. Now it's become a true problem I cannot ignore any longer. This drive-by vulnerability allows an infected webpage to take over your phone if you simply load the webpage up in your browser. With the combination of Flash-Player vulnerabilities announced last nite, this is a truly huge problem. Just visiting a bad webpage could allow your phone to be taken over, sending sms to premium numbers, stealing your personal info, and even initiating phone calls to premium numbers. And that's just the tip of the iceburg!

I will not be working on other issues until I manage to get a properly working interstitial dialog inserted into the download process. TBH, I can't believe AOSP has allowed this behaviour, and I will do what I can to get it changed upstream. Till then, please please be careful when visiting websites you are not familiar with. If you see a download beginning in the background without your interaction (ie you didn't click on a link to download something, it just starts on it's own), your best bet is to pull your battery, put it back in and boot into recovery, then do a full wipe/format and re-install the ROM. Hopefully you have TB backups to re-install your apps afterwards. This is actually dangerous enough for me to recommend such drastic measures!

I've only seen him post in the Elite forums once, and I saw no indication that he's leaving. Unless he indicated as such on another forum that I haven't seen.
