I'm considering flashing DESTROYER.V2 to my EVO. This will be my first attempt at flashing a rom so I have a few questions:

Do I have to flash a new kernel or can I keep this stock?

Is there anything important I need to keep in mind while flashing this rom?

I am currently root and running a stock 2.2 (kernel:2.6.32.17-gee557d htc-kernel@and18-5#15)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1. No you don't have to flash a custom kernel, you can keep the one it comes with.

2. It's an AOSP ROM, so there's a lot of potential of you experiencing bugs you wouldn't if you flashed a sense based ROM. If you experience any bugs, like gps, etc. there are fixes btw.

We're here to help if anything.

Ok just downloaded the rom and about to upload with Rom Manager. I am following the instructions listed on the forum where I have to choose option to back up existing rom and wipe data but there is a 3rd option that shows Wipe Dalvik Cache and it is already checked. I don't see the instructions showing to do this, should this remained checked or uncheck?

It's been a while since I've used ROM Manager, but you always want to wipe cache/dalvik and data, prior to switching ROM's. So yes, keep that box checked.

ROM Manager is good to use at first, but I would suggest you get familiar with doing things manually and then switch to using Amon RA (which is what you get when you "Flash Alternate Recovery" in ROM Manager). Not only is it a much more solid recovery, but it's been known that ROM Manager may not wipe fully, if at all. Keep in mind that your experience may differ and you may never have an issue, I'm just giving you a heads up.

I went ahead and did it manually so I would learn more about the phone and uploaded rom. Man i would never go back to stock again! I am having some issues like not being able to open up the market but the wifi, 3g and 4g all seems to work.

Did you flash the appropriate GAAP's (Google Apps)??? If not, once you do, you'll be able to open up the market. If you haven't, you can find them here. Flash them like you would a ROM or kernel.

i installed a different gapps than the one that cyanogenmod provides, and it still worked :) and even whilst in the same recovery session no less!!

ok guys and gals. this is the new roms and kernels page. it is completely updated. i just want to give mad props to stevcha for starting this thread. it has been exteremely useful for a lot of people in the past and it will continue to do so now as well. so if you have not already done it, please hit the thanx button for stevcha. if you see any roms out there that you want to add to the list please feel free to make suggestions here.

for now, me and frenchy will keep this thread as up to date as possible.

this thread is not intended for people who are having issues with certain roms or such. please do a search first or create a new thread.

let me know if I can help. for the meantime I will send you tow pm's if I see anything that needs changing.

I'm not asking anyone for "official responsibilities" until after July 4th..things should calm down around here at work some time after that/

Just wondering if you wanted to update the MikG rom to v1.03. Links to update from 1.02 and full 1.03 are available. :) This thread is awesome!
