I'm considering flashing DESTROYER.V2 to my EVO. This will be my first attempt at flashing a rom so I have a few questions:
Do I have to flash a new kernel or can I keep this stock?
Is there anything important I need to keep in mind while flashing this rom?
I am currently root and running a stock 2.2 (kernel:2.6.32.17-gee557d htc-kernel@and18-5#15)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
1. No you don't have to flash a custom kernel, you can keep the one it comes with.
2. It's an AOSP ROM, so there's a lot of potential of you experiencing bugs you wouldn't if you flashed a sense based ROM. If you experience any bugs, like gps, etc. there are fixes btw.
We're here to help if anything.
Ok just downloaded the rom and about to upload with Rom Manager. I am following the instructions listed on the forum where I have to choose option to back up existing rom and wipe data but there is a 3rd option that shows Wipe Dalvik Cache and it is already checked. I don't see the instructions showing to do this, should this remained checked or uncheck?
It's been a while since I've used ROM Manager, but you always want to wipe cache/dalvik and data, prior to switching ROM's. So yes, keep that box checked.
ROM Manager is good to use at first, but I would suggest you get familiar with doing things manually and then switch to using Amon RA (which is what you get when you "Flash Alternate Recovery" in ROM Manager). Not only is it a much more solid recovery, but it's been known that ROM Manager may not wipe fully, if at all. Keep in mind that your experience may differ and you may never have an issue, I'm just giving you a heads up.
I went ahead and did it manually so I would learn more about the phone and uploaded rom. Man i would never go back to stock again! I am having some issues like not being able to open up the market but the wifi, 3g and 4g all seems to work.
i installed a different gapps than the one that cyanogenmod provides, and it still workedand even whilst in the same recovery session no less!!
i know you know, ya know? but who knows if he knows what you and i know, ya know?
Man this forum and all you guys who are helpful are the SHIZZLE!! My EVO and I THANK YOU!!! Man why didn't I root when I got the phone?? I guess it was better though cus I have another year before my upgrade so I guess it will hold me off till I get the 3D!lol Followed the links and now I can get my contacts and apps! U peepz rock!
