How do i do this??

1. download that file.. on your computer.

2. plug your phone in to your computer, with your USB cable.. put it in Drive mode.

3. on pc.. open file manager .. open the drive that represents your phone..(this should be the main root directory of your sdcard)

4. find the file you downloaded... drag and drop; or copy and paste.. to the main root directory on your phone sdcard, not in some folder of your sdcard.

Ok so i flashed the evervolv rom onto this phone, and everything works very well. But iv already found another rom i want. when i go into this roms settings it wont let me change the usb connection to disk drive...and when i plug it into my pc no options appear either
I used this guide to the bone and it worked very well :) running s-off hboot 2.16 and clockwork recovery

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
glad you were able to get your root on. try going into recovery and select mounts and storage and select mount usb storage. this should give you the connect from pc to your card. you should be able to transfer the file that way.

and double check your hboot. rooting with revolutionary should change your hboot to 6.16.

no worries and you are right this forums rocks!

i always transfer my files that i plan on flashing through recovery. it seems to connect with the pc easier for whatever reason for me.

Really? I'm going to have to try this from now on. I am waiting right now for the energy rom to load. I am excited to finally be doing this. Id like to switch recoveries but will i have to re-flash the rom as well??

no you can switch recoveries whenever you want. just keep in mind that amon ra will not work with clockwork mod nandroids. and vice versa. however, there is a new recovery called the amon ra style recovery that works with both nandroid backups. i have not tried it yet but i hear good things about it. you can get it here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html

i have amon-ra.. and it is more fool proof.

I have seen in many situations.. that drive members crazy with their phone .. with crazy issues ..with some ROMs.. and it turned out to be the clockwork!!! and amon-ra would work perfect flashing the ROM with no funny booting or force closes.

Get to step 6, it zergs, aquires root, sends in caroline, then just says "waiting for fastboot..." I have uninstalled and reinstalled HTC drivers, and redownloaded revolutionary, get to same step every time. I am doing this in a virtualbox running xp on a mac if that makes any difference. Am in USB debugging, and Fast Boot is unchecked.

i do not have a mac but it sounds like you have it setup with windows xp. do you have the phone as disk drive. if so make sure that it is in charge only. do you have anything on your computer that is setup to communicate with your phone like htc synch? also maybe try it on another computer.

Hey guys, new user here and I just got my Evo rooted thanks to this guide. My problem now is that I can't find the option to make a nandroid backup. Can anyone help with this?

what do you see when you boot into RECOVERY???

there should be an option for Backup/Restore. look in there.. you should see a Nandroid backup.

A BIG thank you to ocnbrze
I am a total noob. I bought an EVO 4G a week ago and rooted it and flashed 2 different ROM's since then. With this guide, the root went perfectly and flashing the ROM's was easy.
I have to say, I searched and looked at every EVO root thread and instruction google offered up but when I saw this guide and read it (several times), I knew I could do it!
This was the BEST instruction I saw period!!

Well done and thanks to ocnbrze

Yeah..... I want to flash some more stuff........I'm getting a kernel urge......don't really know yet what a kernel flash will even do for me????
Not even sure if I spelled kernel correctly...........

First off, thanks for the awesome guide. My EVO 4G was rooted in no time. I managed to do so with a broken Volume Up button as well! (I broke it replacing my digitizer...it's not the replaceable black rocker but the little grey thing that the rocker pushes.)

Anyways, onto my question...I'm on stock ROM and kernel, 2.3.3. I want to switch to CM7. Your guide said that in order to use superwipe, I would need to switch to Amon Ra or trwp (I have Clockworkmod 4.0). But I saw that you need a Volume Up button for installing Amon Ra and twrp.

1. Can I install Amon Ra / twrp through fastboot or some other way to avoid using the Volume Up button? I don't know how to do that but I'm sure I can look it up...
2. Is skipping the superwipe and sticking with CWM 4 an option while flashing CM7?

Thanks!
