Root ROOTING For Dummies

I think I will try this new ROM on the weekend! By that time there should be a little more update about how stable it is. Also I plan on either putting the monkey kernel with it or the one frenchy gave. Will probably just do a nandroid backup and wipe and clean everything and just do it from scratch!

Oh, I wouldn't worry about stability, with each rom mik puts out they get more and more stable, so I can guarantee it will be stable.

From scratch is always the best way to go.

I have fully rooted my phone and have clockworkmod 2.6.0.1 on my phone and after wiping all of the data that is suggested to wipe I try to select my .zip file for cyanogen 7. The screen then reads something like "opening file", it pauses, then goes directly back to the main recovery screen? Any ideas of what is wrong? I got my cynanogen rom from the official website.

Yes welcome!

Also you might consider switching to the Amon RA recovery or you could try out the new recovery by teamwin, because Clockwork doesn't always do the best job wiping.

Amon RA can be found here and teamwin can be found here.

Good luck and enjoy. Be sure to read and read and read some more before you flash anything to your phone.

Also don't hesitate to ask questions, but be sure to do the initial legwork and search and if you can't find it there are a TON of very helpful people in the forums.

Hello Guys,

Have there been any updates about how the newer version of MikG 2.42 is working out? Also the 2 kernels that were told to me here I am still reading about them pondering which way to go. Either the Golden Monkey or freedom? Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

It's great man, just nandroid and flash it, if you don't like it, restore. ;)

As for the new kernels, I haven't flash any because I'm not going to worry about it until they have sbc kernels. I've heard some good things and some bad things. Personally I'm going to wait for SBC before I flash any.

Thanks Man! I was looking at XDA and alot of people are asking for SBC. What exactly is SBC? They used to be a phone company in northern califonia :D

Haha.

The two links that frenchy and ocn gave you will help.

Also if you go to themikmik.com and check out the guides and tutorials section there is some great information in there about kernels by coiledwire. I'd link you but that site is blocked at my work.

Just be sure to read up on it and then decide from there what you want to do.

Thanks! I am actually on the mikmik webpage under the HTC 4G guides and tutorials but I dont see any of the guides by coiledwire. Could you take a look when you can and show me where it is.

Thanks!

Hmm..Maybe it's under general discussion area. Use the advanced search and search for subject kernel from member name coiledwire.

That should find it. I won't get to my computer until late tonight. If you haven't found it by then I'll post a link for you.

I just downloaded MikG 2.42 and flashed the ROM from the previous version of 2.41 I got to say the touch is a little more smoother. The battery life i think is a little better also. I did not flash any kernels yet as I am still a little hesitant. So from the last version of mikg 2.41 to the new one I dont think there have been any significant changes. Overall I love it though!

One major change was that about 57 apps/widgets were moved to data to allow for more room in your system partition.

Happy you got it going, enjoy.

Thanks Boss! So does that free up more Ram for the phone?

It frees up more system space and puts it on data which means you can uninstall the apps easier. So yes and no it frees up more Ram. If you uninstall some of those apps it should free up some more ram.

At least that's the way I understand it.

Ever since I installed the newer version of MikG 2.42 my battery life has been awesome. I like the kernel that this ROM came with and I might hold off even a little longer if the battery keeps performing like this. So far since my last charge its been on for 23 hours and 27 mins with 30% of the battery remaining. I thought I would just share that!

Yeah I have the same results, are you on an extended battery?
