Root ROOTING For Dummies

Yeah feels more like corporate bs to stem preorders from being canceled and first day sales from sucking. Motorola said the same thing, google it lol. They still haven't changed...

Very true and I guess we will have to wait and see. I'm sure someone has already figured out root for it. ;)

Wait and see, I think their statement succeeded then :). You may reconsider canceling if there was chance they may change their mind, you would wait and see.

Root is one thing. That will happen, there are always things they can do. However I dont believe that full root will ever be obtained without the eng bootloader and the key. You will be flashing "roms" instead of roms :).

Do you think someone will crack the 256 bit encryption? I dont see that happening, its actually as far as I know impossible. Would you like to see the total possible combinations from a 256 bit encryption?

For cryptographers, a cryptographic "break" is anything faster than a brute force attack - trying every possible key. Thus, an attack against a 256-bit-key AES requiring 2^200 operations (compared to 2^256 possible keys) would be considered a break, even though 2^200 operations would still take far longer than the age of the universe to complete. The largest successful publicly-known brute force attack has been against a 64-bit RC5 key by distributed.net.[10] (its a wiki but its accurate)

LOL..Yeah I hear you. Basically have what you have with the atrix and the other motorola phones.

They've got until 0ct of 2012 to get it all figured out. ;)

LOL...Funny stuff. I thought the end of the world was supposed to be last Saturday?

I suppose "The End of the World" is all relative and technically they are right because sadly on that day it will be the end of the world for some people.

It was last week according to one weird christian dude and people that believed him.

12/21/12 is a much more popular mainstream idea. Havent you seen the movies about 2012? Like oh 2012 lol. There is a nother one im sure.

Nope never heard of them or it.

glad htc is seeing the light. i'm still waiting another year when my upgrade is due. that is just another reason why i like htc phones. can't wait to see what comes out next year for htc or how well the evo 3d turns out to be.

Still too late for the 3d....? Guess we will see. Maybe they release the key to fix the issue?

HMMM...Good point. After re-reading the article I see what you mean. I apparently didn't read it close enough. Ah well by the time I can get it I will know if it's unlocked. ;) And I might just wait one more year to get the next new phone HTC has to offer, Evo 4D :D...That is of course if we are all still here.

Yeah they will hopefully make it retroactive and provide an unlocked bootloader for it through ota or a key generator

I don't think they will need to make it retroactive for the 3D, because I think they are already coming out that way, but I guess I could be reading that wrong.

Device Build Number: 3.70.651.1
Android Version: 2.2
HBoot Version: I don't know where to find this info...
unrevoked Version Used:3.32
Recovery: Name and Version ( don't know where this is either)
Stock ROM and kernel

My question is about Android 2.2.1, I saw it in best buy the other day and saw a guy with an EVO who seemed to be running it as well, but since I've rooted I don't know if I can do the "check for software update" or if I have to flash a 2.2.1 ROM or something

i would not do a software update. that is not necessary. you can get the rest of the info by going to your hboot menu: power off then press and hold power+vol down. from the looks of things you have the latest ota. however, there a few roms out there now where they have gingerbread (the next update) and sense built in. you can check out the more popular roms in my sig ref#2 or head on over to xda and check out some of the newer roms. EVO 4G Android Development - xda-developers. any other questions please feel free to ask.

Used the rooting for dummies guide and got the superuser app, but I was unable to use any of the root apps because i didn't have Busybox installed, plus my desire was still 2.1. Well, today I began to finish what was started and downloaded the necessary files to install busybox. First I wanted to make sure that it was rooted completely. Followed the instructions and got a blue altell screen that won't go away. Here's my HBOOT info:

Welcome to AF Falkroy! Don't worry, this is an easy fix. First and foremost, yes you're rooted and have unlocked nand access. Which app were you trying to run that required busybox? Titanium Backup? If so, you can get it once you open the app up; click on the "problems" box and download busybox. You can also find it here.

Can you give me a little more info on the blue Altell screen you're referring to?
